After-School Enrichment Classes

After-school enrichment classes, sponsored
through the PTA, include volleyball, roller hockey, floor hockey, and soccer. Students will not only get to participate in an organized, safe, small group setting taught by a professional, but they also learn the correct use of the skills and how to use them in a game and at a more advanced level. They will play all positions on the court/field, offense and defense, and participate in scrimmages against other class members.

Rock Paper Scissors Tournament

This is an annual event where all students in first through fifth grade learn about tournaments and participate in a single elimination tournament using the game Rock Paper Scissors. RPS is taught as a conflict strategy the children use to solve their own problems with classmates. Each class has a champion that moves on to the grade level championship. Then grade level winners move on to participate in the school championship.

Battle of the Books (BOB)

Fifth grade students at Curtis Elementary ave an opportunity to participate in an exciting and motivational literature program entitled Battle of the Books. The intent of the program is to encourage recreational reading, to increase familiarity with authors and genres, and to have students experience the fun of a friendly competition as they recall information from each book. This program is voluntary and all fifth graders may participate.  Mrs. Profita, Curtis Librarian and Mrs. Koch, Literacy Specialist work together to coach the BOB team.

A BOB summer reading list was given to all fourth grade at the end of the year. Students will need to complete a summary sheet on each book read so that they can recall important information from the book.
