After-School Enrichment Classes

After-school enrichment classes, sponsored
through the PTA, include volleyball, roller hockey, floor hockey, and soccer. Students will not only get to participate in an organized, safe, small group setting taught by a professional, but they also learn the correct use of the skills and how to use them in a game and at a more advanced level. They will play all positions on the court/field, offense and defense, and participate in scrimmages against other class members.

Rock Paper Scissors Tournament

This is an annual event where all students in first through fifth grade learn about tournaments and participate in a single elimination tournament using the game Rock Paper Scissors. RPS is taught as a conflict strategy the children use to solve their own problems with classmates. Each class has a champion that moves on to the grade level championship. Then grade level winners move on to participate in the school championship. .

Curtis Series Reading

Students in 2nd-5th grade can participate in this activity. Teachers and staff members choose a series and house the books in their rooms. Students have to visit these spaces again and again to check out books from their series.

When students read a series:

  • They deepen their connection with the books’ characters.
  • They increase comprehension.
  • They increase reading time.
  • They don't waste time trying to decide what book to read next.
