CTC Updates & Town Hall

posted Aug 5, 2020, 2:02 PM by Courtney Merridew

All Incoming Tech Center Students:

Anticipating that the upcoming August 11th School Board Meeting will provide additional information on the reopening of Chesterfield Schools, we will hold the Tech Center’s Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, August 13th at 1PM. Please complete this form to submit any questions in advance that you may have regarding the Tech Center. Some of the questions that I can answer now are addressed below:

  • The Tech Center’s first day of virtual learning will begin on September 8th in alignment with all CCPS schools, with the exception of the Precision Machining Technology course that has received separate communication. Our classes follow the same schedule and guidelines as the high schools.

  • Our Parent/Student Orientation for students new to the Tech Center, scheduled for Thursday, September 3rd, will now be held virtually. This event will allow students and parents to virtually meet teachers and obtain any course specific information needed prior to the start of class. Please mark your calendar for that morning between 9am and Noon. More information will be provided with specific times for each course shortly.

  • The virtual schedule prohibits the amount of in-person learning this year for students.  For this reason, we are reducing as many program fees as possible to reflect this change.  Charges for uniforms, personal tools, and items that will belong to students at the end of the year cannot be reduced.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Thursday, August 13th at 1PM to learn more about the programs of the Tech Center.

Virtual Learning Message

posted Jul 23, 2020, 7:07 AM by Courtney Merridew

Dear students, parents, and community members of the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center:

As you may have heard, the Chesterfield County School Board voted to begin the 20-21 school year in a virtual learning model. With this directive, the Tech Center teachers and staff are excited to have your student participate in one of our 30+ classes during the upcoming school year. Though this year’s return to school is different from previous, we are working to ensure our Tech Center students receive the best possible learning experience. As in prior years the Tech Center’s instructional focus for the fall will include Virginia's workplace readiness skills, OSHA safety training, and essential theoretical knowledge needed for practical skills. As the year progresses and we work towards a phased-in return to face-to-face instruction, classroom lessons and labs will return to what you have come to expect from our Tech Center staff.

Communication will continue throughout the remainder of the Summer. I will send bi-weekly updates to ensure students and parents are receiving the latest information regarding Tech Center courses and operations. In addition, I will host a virtual town hall meeting to answer questions you may have. More information regarding the CTC Town Hall Meeting will be coming soon including a format for submitting questions.

Again - the Tech center staff and I look forward to serving you in the fall.
