4th Grade

Reading strategies to further enhance comprehension are practiced in fourth grade as students begin reading novels and more non-fiction materials.  Writing instruction continues to follow the six-trait approach focusing on constructing multi-paragraph papers and research projects.  Numbers grow from thousands to millions, data collection and analysis takes place, algebraic thinking is introduced along with double-digit multiplication and division.  Students also learn fractions, decimals, probability and elapsed time.  Some students may also be exposed to fifth grade mathematical concepts through an accelerated math classroom environment.  The fourth grade science program allows students to investigate plants, ecosystems, weather, electricity, and our solar system.
Social studies provides students an opportunity to learn all about our state from its native inhabitants through wars to the economy and technology of present day.
