3rd Grade

By third grade students are beginning to understand and study different genres of literature while learning more about the strategies good readers use.  Writing starts to become more paragraph-driven with focus on constructed solid sentences and including detail in written work.  The third grade math curriculum helps students learn numbers into the thousands.  Logical reasoning and pattern analysis also become important components of the math instruction with continued guidance in problem-solving and connection of math to the real world.  In science, students study aquarium habitats, simple machines and the cycles of nature.  Government and exploration become the main focuses in third grade social studies with continued use of map skills and exposure to ancient Greece, Rome and Mali.
