Freshman Information

Welcome to 9th grade! We are looking forward to your arrival in a few weeks and are confident that you will have an excellent four years here at Cosby High School. In preparation for the new school year, please make note of the following:

Supplies: Individual classes will have different requirements, but all will use a 3-ring binder. For organizational purposes, we are asking all freshmen to purchase two large 3-ring binders (2.5” – 3”) to use for block classes. One will be used for even day classes, and the other will be used for odd day classes. Students will also need dividers to separate each class within their binders. A smaller 3-ring binder (1” – 2”) is needed for first block, which meets every day.

Freshman Orientation: Will be held on Thursday, August 30th, from 9 am – 11 am. Students and parents will hear a brief overview of Cosby High School, with students breaking at 9:15 to go to each of their classes and meet their teachers. Parents will stay to hear essential information about Cosby, including academic and behavioral expectations, athletics, clubs, and ParentVue., a web-based program which allows parents to view student grades and class information.

Freshman Picnic: To encourage active involvement from the first week of school, all students who have paid their freshmen dues will get a dinner ticket at the football game on Friday, September 7th, as the Cosby Titans take on the Manchester Lancers! Game tickets are $8. Gates open at 6:00pm and dinner will be ready starting at 6:15

See you there!

Back to School Night and “CRISS” Overview: On Monday, September 17th, from 6:00 – 6:55pm, parents will have the opportunity to learn about Project “CRISS” (CReating Independence through Student-owned Strategies). This research-based program is being used by teachers in every subject area, challenging students to use higher-order thinking skills and consider real world applications for the subjects they study at Cosby. Following the CRISS presentation, at 7:00pm we will have our traditional back-to-school night in which parents will hear from each of their student’s teachers.
