Mathematics: We believe that ALL students can learn mathematics with understanding.  This involves thinking, reasoning, and applying knowledge and skills to problem solving situations, not just memorizing facts and procedures to get an answer.  Mathematics is a sense-making discipline that requires both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.  Reflective thought and reasoning is required throughout this process.
Classroom instruction: Mathematics classrooms are student-centered.  Teachers are facilitators who design instruction to provide opportunities for students to use and build on their pre-existing knowledge and skills.  Students at all levels are engaged in rich discourse - questioning, explaining and justifying their reasons as they learn to apply mathematics to real life situations.
