Weekly Snapshot 6/11/18-6/15/18

posted Jun 10, 2018, 1:34 PM by Allie Strollo   [ updated Jun 10, 2018, 1:43 PM ]

Well we've made it! Here's your last Weekly Snapshot for the year...Another email is coming soon for information about tomorrow's 5th grade field trip. I will also be sending a sign up sheet looking for donations and/or volunteers for our staff luncheon this Friday.

Last week, our students attended the Summer Reading Kickoff. I am so excited to announce that for the first time, CHES will be doing a unique Summer Reading Program through the implementation of One School, One Book. Every family with students in grades K-4 received a copy of Fudge-A-Mania by Judy Blume and is asked to read it at home during the summer.  Please make time for your family to participate in this special activity that promotes a sense of community while encouraging reading aloud to our children. Read here for more info on how to participate. Throughout the summer, check our CHES website and/or Facebook page for updates.

Here are some important updates and reminders:

  • If your child was a CHES Champ for the month of May, please return CHES Champ signs this week.
  • Don't forget to pick up and medications from the clinic before summer break. Reference this letter for more information.
  • Clover Hill ES will be used as a public voting site on Tuesday, June 12.
  • Please return any library books and/or pay fines for missing or damaged books.
  • 3rd grade parents are invited to attend the Awards Assembly this Thursday at 1:15. 4th and 5th graders will be having an awards assembly, but due to cafeteria space, 3 HR early release, and students needing to receive grab and go lunches, we will be celebrating with students only. Thank you so much for your understanding! Look for your child's certificates and report cards this Friday!

Weekly Snapshot 6/4-6/8

It’s hard to believe that this upcoming weekend will “technically” be the last weekend of the school year. That means only one more Sunday Snapshot coming your way!

I'd like to congratulate our Kindergarten and First Grade students on presenting their very first Student Led Conference. I don't know about you parents, but I was blown away at how well these little leaders did with sharing the progress they've made throughout the year. Last week, CHES also recognized Judy Leavey, our Computer teacher for being selected as this year’s Classified Employee of the Year! Mrs. Leavey is so deserving of this honor. Thank you for everything you do for our students and teachers.

Tomorrow, our students will attend the Summer Reading Kickoff. I am so excited to announce that for the first time, CHES will be doing a unique Summer Reading Program

through the implementation of One School, One Book. Every family with students in

grades K-4 will receive a copy of the same chapter book and is asked to read it at home during the summer.  Please make time for your family to participate in this special activity

that promotes a sense of community while encouraging reading aloud to our children. We

can't tell you the title of the book because it's a surprise and will be revealed to students

tomorrow during the kick off. Read here for more info on how to participate. Throughout the summer, check our CHES website and/or Facebook page for updates.

Here are some important updates and reminders:

  • If your child was a CHES Champ for the month of May, please return CHES Champ signs this week.
  • There are still spaces open for the first ever CCPS Cultural Arts Summer Camp at Swift Creek Elementary School. • Please RSVP for the Volunteer Breakfast which takes place this Thursday. To RSVP email Deanne_Nowlin@ccpsnet.net
  • Yearbooks will be distributed to students VERY SOON! The PTA has some extra books. If you are still looking to order please send cash or check for $35 to the school office with student's name, grade and teacher.
  • Don't forget to pick up and medications from the clinic before summer break. Reference this letter for more information.
  • 5th Grade Graduation has been moved to CTC@Hull. A letter came home with students last week.

Weekly Snapshot Week of 5/7/18-5/11/18

posted May 6, 2018, 12:53 PM by Allie Strollo   [ updated May 6, 2018, 1:18 PM ]

Thank you to everyone who attended our Awards Assemblies and Literacy Night last week. This week we are celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week. You should have received emails from your grade level coordinator or room parent.

On May 9, we are joining in on the National Bike and Walk to school Day.  If your child normally walks or rides their bike to school we are excited to celebrate with them. Walking and bicycling to school enables children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Regular physical activity helps children build strong bones, muscles and joints, and it decreases the risk of obesity. In contrast, insufficient physical activity can contribute to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke. If your child normally rides the bus or you drop off, you have the opportunity to drop them off a Woodlake Swim and Racquet at 8:00 AM.  From this destination we will walk with volunteers and staff to school. Register your child by clicking this link if you would like for him/her to join us.  There is also a place for you to volunteer on this day to make sure all kids arrive safely.

The next Family Night Out is May 17th from 6:30-8:30 at Skate-A-Way. Admission is $5 and skate rental is $3.  As an incentive, the class with the most students to attend will receive a pizza party.

CHES raised a total of $2255.28 during the Pennies for Patients campaign for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Congratulations to Mrs. Rymer's class for raising the most money and earning a pizza party! Every class did such a wonderful job. Thank you all so much for your support!

Spring picture money is due.  Please send payment or return packets.

If you are interested in registering your child for the YMCA after school program at CHES next year, please click this link. If you register by the end of the day on Sunday, you're first week is free if you email jongleuxd@ymcarichmond.org

We have some fabulous student leaders who have put together their own group called the "Green and Clean Team." This Saturday, May 12, they have organized a clean-up event at Sunday Park from 10 AM - 1 PM. Click here to see the flier they created and learn more information. You can also view their video here.

Reminder: Last year, you might remember taking the time to complete a Parent Survey about The Leader in Me. Well, it's that time of year again and we really need your help. Please take a view minutes to complete the survey by clicking this link. You have no idea how much we appreciate your support and help with this. The results of the survey help us to plan our school goals and next steps.

Our leaders did a great job at our Town Hall meetings last Friday! I know I say this after each Town Hall meeting, but seriously...our kids impress me more and more each time! During the meeting students heard from Lt. Jason Elmore from the Chesterfield Fire Department. He shared how he uses the 7 Habits while helping out our community. Upper grades heard from our leaders about how to best prepare for their upcoming SOLs.

Last week our BOB team “tied for 2nd” with Swift Creek ES. I was so impressed with our students! Thank you to Mrs. Stuller and Mrs. Pierpont for preparing our team! We also celebrated our 2017-18 Students of the Year last week. Congratulations to each of our classroom representatives! A very special congratulations to our K-2 Student of the Year, Ethan Siefert, and our 3-5 Student of the Year, Ian Watts.

Thank you to everyone who Synergized to make Kindergarten Registration a huge success! Our team did such an amazing job and everything ran so smooth! This year, student leaders were given new leadership roles which was so fantastic to see.

The Comrades Yard Sale was a huge success. The PTA raised over $527.05 from sales alone, not counting booth rental. Thank you for your donations and all your help. PTA is excited to see what the Goodwill check will be. The trailer was so full she said they could hardly fit the ladder back in and close it up! Thank you to everyone who made this event happen!

We also celebrated Earth Week and the Little Feet Meet last week. Congrats to our Little Feet participants and also thank you to the student leaders who served as their buddies. I’d also like to thank our student leaders on the Environmental Cabinet for putting together a fantastic "Love Our Earth Week." Also, our 5th graders had their final performance of their play last Wednesday evening. Thank you to Mrs. Harris and her helpers for putting on such a great show!

We will be kicking off our Pennies for Patients week long campaign on Monday, April 23 until Friday, April 27!  Pennies for Patients is a fundraiser to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Schools across the country take part in this campaign by collecting pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollar bills to benefit the Society.  The class who raises the most money earns a pizza party!

In order to organize our class rolls for the 2018-2019 school year, we are asking parents to let us know if your child(ren) is/are returning to Clover Hill next year.  Please indicate what your child(ren)'s school plans are for next year.  This will also help us prepare your child(ren)'s records for transfer to another school.  Complete one form for each child by May 4, 2018. There is no need to complete the form for your 5th grade child entering middle school. Click here for the form.

2nd grade's Ancient Celebration Day is on Friday, April 27 from 10:00-11:40. Third grade is switching lunch times with 2nd. 3rd grade will eat lunch at 11:20 and 2nd grade will eat lunch at 12:05.

Each year, we encourage students, parents and the general public to send thank-you notes to Virginia’s deserving public school teachers during National Teacher Appreciation Week.  This year, three student artists won the contest to have their artwork featured on thousands of thank-you notes distributed across the state! To send a Thank you Note to a teacher please click here.

Just a reminder, next year we are looking into offering a YMCA after school program at Clover Hill that will run M-F until 6 PM (if we get enough interest). If you have a child at CHES and you’re interested, please complete this brief survey. here is the link.

I cannot believe how fast this year has flown by and that we are now in the final marking period. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten that it’s April already and sadly...April is halfway over.

I’d like to give a huge shout out and thank you to Mrs. Lane for the remarkable job she did with Field Day! Thank you to the volunteers who came to help out to make this event possible. We definitely couldn't do it without you. Kudos to Mrs. French and Mrs. Harris for their hard work with the Fine Arts Festival this weekend! Congrats to those students who sang as part of our 5th Grade Honor's Choir and also to those students who had art work on display.

  • Many of you are probably aware, but Sara Gilliam, our PTA Treasurer, and her family are leaving at the end of the month to move to Boston! She has made such a huge impact on not only our CHES community, but the county as well. I’m working with the PTA to do something for her before she leaves us. We are looking to collect notes or cards to show her how much we appreciate all she has done. If you don’t have time to write a personal note, please at least take a moment to use this Google form to send her a special thank you message. If you complete the form, I’ll take care of the rest :o) Even a couple of sentences is much appreciated and deserving for Sara. The deadline is this Friday, April 20 by the end of the day.
