Sept. 18-22 Weekly Snapshot

posted Sep 17, 2017, 12:31 PM by Allie Strollo   [ updated Sep 17, 2017, 12:32 PM ]

Well, that's a wrap for Boosterthon! Friday was such a blast! Thank you to the PTA and everyone who came out to support our CHES Champs at the run. If you haven't had a chance, be sure to check our Twitter feed and Facebook for some amazing photos! Let your kiddos know they can expect to see Princess Carle and Unicorn Strollo make an appearance at school on Tuesday! Pledging is open for the rest of the week. Right now, Mrs. George's Kindergarten class has earned the most money and is in the lead for the class pizza party!

Here's what's happening this week at CHES:
  • Join us Tuesday for the Watch Dog Meeting and PTA meeting. The Watch Dog meeting will begin at 6 PM in the cafeteria. The PTA will meet in the library at 6:30.
  • Wednesday, September 20 is the deadline to send in any summer box tops and to be entered into the drawing for 2 movie tickets sponsored by the PTA.
  • Jog Walk begins this Wednesday and meets every Wednesday and Friday through October 27. Please meet on the bus loop at 7:30 AM for jog/walk. Parents must accompany any students in grades K and 1.
  • This Thursday we are the celebrating the birthdays of Mrs. Sthreshley and Mr. Moe! Mrs. Rollins is celebrating her birthday today!
  • Friday students will be practicing a lock down drill, so don't be alarmed if they come home talking about a lock down. We practice these drills to make sure our students are safe and prepared in the event of a real emergency.
A few reminders:
  • Parent Vue letters were sent home with all second graders, new students in grades 3-5, and any parents who didn't activate their account last year. By activating your Parent Vue account, you can access your child's grades at any time if they are in grades 2nd-5th. Call the office with any questions.
  • Keep sending in old denim! This is the last week for denim collection! Right now Ms. Wagner's 3rd grade class is in the lead for a pizza party!
Upcoming Dates:
  • 10/6 3 HR ER day
  • 10/13 Back to School Picnic at 5:30

Sept. 11-15 Weekly Snapshot

posted Sep 10, 2017, 10:19 AM by Allie Strollo   [ updated Sep 10, 2017, 10:54 AM ]

We had a fantastic first week at CHES! If you have been following us on Twitter and/or Facebook, you have seen some amazing things going on in classrooms. Thank you for working with us to make the start of the school year a positive one for our students. I did wish to bring to your attention one detail about student drop off and pick up and ask your help and support with the following.

We have two neighborhoods on either side of our school that have narrow roads – Laurel Trail and Woods Walk. I ask that you please be considerate of our neighbors and neighborhoods on either side of the school. We request that parents please use caution when parking at bus stops and not park on side streets in these neighborhoods where people may get blocked in or emergency vehicles are not able to pass.

Thank you for your help with this as we try to bring a positive message to all of community members, including our neighbors who may not have households with children who attend Clover Hill Elementary School.

Here's what's happening this week at CHES:
  • This week, students continue daily huddles with the Boosterthon team! They've really enjoyed learning about the 6 virtues during their Castle Quest. We cannot thank you enough for your support during this fundraiser. All money raised goes toward curriculum enrichment and student leadership. By supporting the Boosterthon fundraiser you are thanking the PTA for covering the costs of student agendas, classroom magazine subscriptions, take home folders (coming soon), and supporting the cost of teacher wish list items. Just by logging on to funrun.com, you are helping out school. Last year, over 60% of the funds raised came from family members and friends. Even if it's not a good time for you personally to make a donation, your friends and family might be looking for ways to support CHES. Remember any student who earns a $2 per lap pledge or a $60 flat pledge over the weekend will earn the javelin challenge kit on Monday morning.
  • We hope you can join us for the Boosterthon Fun Run this Friday, Sept. 15. Kindergarten through second grade students will run at 8:45 and grades 3-5 will run at 10:00. We invite you to come cheer on your child! Don't forget to visit the front office first to check in.
  • On Tuesday, the Cub Scouts will be visiting all classrooms. Check your child's book bag for more information.
  • Wednesday we will practice another fire drill. Students did an amazing job during their first drill last week. Be sure to tell them Mrs. Strollo said "Thank You" for exiting and entering quietly and calmly.
A few reminders:
  • Parents are invited to join their children for lunches beginning on September 18. We ask for two weeks with no visitors so we can help students with routines in the cafeteria. Thank you so much for helping us out in this area!
  • Breakfast services begin on, Monday, September 11.
  • Don't forget to turn in your summer reading bingo sheet.
  • Look for an email this week letting you know to check your child's book bag for your Parent Vue activation letter. This letter will be sent home with all second graders, new students in grades 3-5, and any parents who didn't activate their account last year. By activating your Parent Vue account, you can access your child's grades at any time if they are in grades 2nd-5th.
  • Tomorrow is the last day to register any 4th or 5th grade girls for our Girls on the Run program. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Schirmer at crystal_schirmer@ccpsnet.net
  • Keep sending in boxtops your collected over the summer. September 20 is the deadline to be entered into the drawing for 2 movie tickets sponsored by the PTA.
Upcoming Dates:
  • 9/19 Watch Dog and PTA Meeting at 6 PM
  • 10/6 3 HR ER day
  • 10/13 Back to School Picnic at 5:30

Welcome back! You're Ready, We're Ready, and Students are Ready! CHES is so excited to welcome students back to school tomorrow for the 2017-18 school year!

Here's what's happening this week at CHES:
  • Tuesday, 9/5 is the first day of school. Make sure your child knows how they're getting home from school! If they ride a bus, be sure they know the route number and not the bus number. Click here if you need to double check your child's route, stop, and estimated time of bus arrival and drop off. Please be patient with transportation the first couple days of school as buses might be running late as they're learning new routes.
  • Wednesday, 9/6 is our Boosterthon Pep Rally! Be sure to check your child's book bag for information.
  • Thursday, 9/7 students begin participating in Boosterthon team huddles during the last 15 minutes of resource. These huddles last until our Fun Run on Friday, September 15.

  • Tomorrow, your child will be coming home with a lot of important information in their book bags. Please take some time to go through it and return necessary items. Especially the emergency cards!

The Fun Run is Coming!

posted Aug 24, 2017, 4:19 PM by Allie Strollo   [ updated Aug 24, 2017, 4:21 PM ]

Dear Parents and Guardians,

CHES is excited to partner with the PTA again this year for our upcoming Boosterthon Fun Run! The Fundraiser is a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on Wednesday, September 6. Families will then gather pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on Friday, September 15. This year, we are going to run outside and it's going to be FANTASTIC! With our big goal of raising $30,000 for student leadership and curriculum enrichment, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.

Students will also experience an amazing character theme, CASTLE QUEST! an English castle theme all about being brave and living with character. On their quest to regain Bravemore Castle, students will learn the “SIX VIRTUES of a TRUE HERO” from a cast of colorful characters.

Donations will go toward student leadership, curriculum enrichment, and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run (dates and times will be coming soon)! Thank you for your support!

Mid Summer Update

posted Jul 26, 2017, 9:42 AM by Allie Strollo   [ updated Jul 26, 2017, 10:04 AM ]

Dear CHES families,

We hope you are enjoying your summer so far! Things have been hopping here at Clover Hill. We have enjoyed having Swift Creek and Wooldridge Elementary combine with us for summer school this year. Things were way too quiet without students and teachers at the beginning of summer, so hosting summer school was a definite pleasure!

It’s hard to believe that August is right around the corner. If you’ve walked into any store lately you’ve probably had some mixed emotions about seeing all the school supplies! Some of us are excited about school starting, some of us might feel nervous, and some of us aren’t QUITE ready to wrap up summer vacation yet. For me, it’s a sign that I can start communicating important information and slowly begin to shift your mind from “summer mode” to “school mode.”

I can’t think of a better way to ease back into “school mode” than to invite you to join us tonight Wednesday, July 26th at the Clover Hill PUBLIC LIBRARY from 5-8:00 PM for book checkout, reading with PAWS to READ, a scavenger hunt, and the Sweet Frog truck!

If you can’t make it tonight, consider joining us tomorrow, Thursday, July 27th from 1-4 PM at CHES in the library! Come on by to read, check out books, access computers, play games, and have some “cool” fun during the summer heat!

Now looking ahead into next school year...We are getting so excited to welcome our students back!  Here are some important dates and times to remember:

  • Tuesday, August 29-Teacher Assignments will come via phone message and email to parents by 3 PM. If you don’t receive your call by 3 PM, please call the school.

  • Thursday, August 31-Kindergarten Orientation and Back To School Nights

    • Kindergarten Orientation is at 9 AM and will begin in the cafeteria.

      • Parents will learn all they need to know about kindergarten and students meet their teacher, visit their classroom, and take a tour of CHES. Don’t forget to bring your child’s supplies or pick up your pre-ordered supply box.

    • Back to School Night for Grades 3, 4, 5 @ 5 PM; Grades 1 & 2 @ 6:30 PM.

      • Only parents are invited to this event. Parents will gather in the cafeteria and then meet the teacher to learn important information for the upcoming school year.

  • Friday, September 1-New Student Orientation; Meet & Greet/Supply Drop Off

    • New Student Orientation (Gr-1-5) @ 9 AM

      • This event is for parents and 1st-5th graders who are new to CHES and begins in the cafeteria. Student Leaders from the Hospitality Cabinet will take new students and parents on a tour of the building and show them the ropes!

    • Meet & Greet for Gr. 1st & 2nd @ 10 AM; Gr. 3-5 @ 11:30 AM

      • Students are invited to meet the teacher and drop off school supplies. There is no need to check into the front office for this event. Once you receive your phone call on Tuesday you will receive a teacher name and room number. Greeters will be available in the lobby to help direct you.

Finally, while cleaning out drawers and closets this summer, don't forget to put aside denim for the Denim Drive. Our goal is to maintain our 1st Place title we earned last year! Feel free to bring your denim to any of the events mentioned above. Also, don’t forget you can support our school by placing recycled clothing and shoes in the white box in the driveway of the school.

We truly hope you are having a safe, fun, and relaxing summer filled with time to make memories and recuperate! We look forward to a very exciting school year at CHES!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Strollo, Principal and Ms. Carle, Assistant Principal

Weekly Snapshot: Week of 5/8/17

posted May 7, 2017, 8:17 AM by Allie Strollo

Good evening! This is Mrs. Strollo with your Weekly Snapshot!

Clover Hill ES received the “Endurance Award” for years of collaboration between the PTA Green Committee and the Student Environmental Cabinet.  Initiatives this year included recycling education outreach, annual “Love Our Earth Week” activities, and an annual Green Apple Day of Service to improve outdoor learning spaces.  During the Green Apple Day which was held on April 30th, 25 student, parent, teacher volunteers came together to refurbish an outdoor classroom and work in the two school courtyards which have been transformed into bee- and butterfly-friendly gardens over the past four years. Photographs of the Green Apple Day and other environmental activities carried out during the year can be seen on the school’s green blog at http://gogreencloverhill.blogspot.com/.  Thank you to our volunteers and the environmental cabinet and leaders for all of their hard work! The courtyards and school grounds look AMAZING!

I would also like to thank the PTA and parents for all of their support and donations as we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week!

The time is finally here! SOLs begin this week! Please make sure your child is well rested, eats a good breakfast, and arrives to school on time. The testing schedule is attached for your reference. SOLCalendar-forparents.pdf

Here's what else is going on this week at CHES:
-Monday: All Fired Up and Piano Partners meet after school
-Tuesday: Kindergarten visits the zoo; Challenge Island and Orff Ensemble meet after school
-Wednesday: Begin earning double tokens for walking or biking to school in honor of Bike Month!
-Thursday: Family Night Out
-Friday: Interims are available through Parent View for grades 2-5; After School: Bricks4Kidz and BOB Celebration

Have a wonderful week!
