1st Grade

The first grade teachers.

The first grade curriculum provides a second layer of the educational foundation with increased exposure to reading and writing activities that encourage students to become independent learners. In math, emphasis is placed on continued development of number sense, addition and subtraction, units of measurement, money, estimation and problem-solving. In science, students investigate weather, rocks, soil and fossils, sound, matter, heat and living organisms. In social studies, students continue their study of citizenship with emphasis on the American flag, symbols of our country, American leaders and holidays, along with usage of simple maps and exposure to economic concepts.
