Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Lovin receiving her award.
I have been teaching a total of 30 years in various states, ranging from grades Pre-K to fourth grade, with the past 22 years being right here in first grade at Marguerite Christian. The changes that our school has undergone during its history have provided multiple opportunities to feel challenged, to experience personal growth, and to feel that I could make a difference as a teacher right here. I never wanted to go anywhere else. My heart is here.
To paraphrase a quote by Barney Fife on a 1962 episode of “The Andy Griffith Show”… “When you're dealing with people, sometimes you do a whole lot better if you go not so much by the book, but by the heart.” This has been especially true for me in dealing with children. Yes, they need rules. They need boundaries. They need expectations and goals. But above all, they need to know that they have value and that they are loved.
