Sports & Recreation Leadership

When you think of a career in sports, most people think about professional athletes.  The athletes represent only a small portion of the people involved in the athletic industry.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are only 16,500 professional athletes in the United States.  The total revenue from the sports industry is about $450 billion annually; that makes it larger than the restaurant, real estate, and automotive industries.  So while your chances of being a professional athlete are very low, you can still be a part of one of the most dynamic and exciting industries in the U.S. and around the globe.

We are lucky to be able to partner with SwimRVA in our Advanced PE 1 Aquatics class.  Students are able to learn how to be a lifeguard and receive their certification. This opens the opportunity for summer jobs for our students and a lifesaving skill for their future. Watch one of our students talk about the benefits of this program.
