Dress expectations

As a college and career academy, the focus of our dress code is appropriate career attire. Students should view these expectations in the same way they would if an employer gave them a dress code. As in any workplace, accommodations will be made for religious requirements. All dress expectations, as stated in the Chesterfield County Public Schools Student Code of Conduct, apply.  

 Expectations Examples
  • Solid colored polo-style shirts of any brand.
  • Button-down shirts are acceptable.
  • Carver logo t-shirts are acceptable. 
  • Shirts must have sleeves, either long or short.
  • Shirts will not be worn open more than three inches below the neckline.

  • Must be a plain solid color and worn at the waist
  • Camo is not a solid color.
  • Ripped, torn, cut, or shredded pants are not permissible.
  • Yoga attire, leggings, and jeggings are not pants. 
  • Athletic wear, shorts, and sweatpants are not permissible.
  • Undergarments should never be visible.

Sweaters, Sweatshirts, and Jackets
  • Must be a plain solid color
  • If wearing a sweater, sweatshirt or jacket, students must be wearing a polo, button down, or Carver t-shirt. 
  • Hooded sweatshirts (hoodies) and hooded jackets are not permitted to be worn inside the building. Students will be provided lockers to store hooded sweatshirts, hats, and outerwear. 
  • Must be free of profanity or offensive images and/or language.

  • Must have a back and a hard sole
  • Sneakers/tennis shoes are acceptable; slippers, flip-flops, etc are not.

  • No headwear may be worn inside the building. ie. hats, do-rags, hair wraps, rollers, beanies, bandanas, sweatbands, hoods, etc.

Additional Information
  • Dresses and skirts are not permitted.
  • PE classes expect students to wear shorts or sweatpants (without pockets), a tee shirt either plain or conforming to the school logo rules, and sneakers.  PE attire is to be worn only during PE class.
  • Administration may suspend these regulations for school spirit days.
The parents of any student required to wear clothing that deviates from these expectations based on religious beliefs, medical needs, or other good cause should contact the administration.
