Application Process

Any student enrolled in a Chesterfield County high school or is successfully completing 8th-grade can apply to attend Carver Academy.  We currently have 280 students representing every high school in the county.  



CAREER ACADEMIES
By the sophomore year, students choose from one of our four career academies.

 AGRICULTURE & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES
Agricultural & Environmental Sciences encompass a broad range of interests including the study of ecosystem and environmental processes related to soil, air and water pollution. Students participate in running our school farm and learn how to enhance agricultural sustainability and address issues of food security while protecting the environment.



 

             

 

CONSTRUCTION TRADES
All students learn basic carpentry, electrical, masonry, welding and plumbing skills. trades. OSHA 10, First Aid & CPR, Fall Protection and Construction Flagging certifications are required. With the proper coursework, students may be prepared to earn certifications in Masonry or Carpentry.
 


 
HOSPITALITY, TOURISM, AND CULINARY ARTS
Students learn the basics of the hospitality and tourism industry.  We have two pathways within this Academy allowing students to choose either an emphasis on hotel management and tourism or to become proficient in culinary skills. 








SPORTS AND RECREATION LEADERSHIP
The sports and recreation industry is one of the largest in Chesterfield County.  Students learn the physical skills to participate in a wide variety of activities as well as the management skills to organize, promote and lead those activities.   This prepares our graduates for a career at recreation facilities, such as aquatics, playgrounds, parks, camps, fitness, and senior centers.  Students who choose to further their education can also work with college or professional sports programs.
                                                                                                 
                   
 


SENIOR ACADEMY
This option is for students needing less than 9 credits to graduate.  We can help you accomplish that within a year.  Students needing four credits or fewer can graduate in one semester.




Within any Academy, students can choose the Early College option. This allows students to earn transferable college credits plus additional college credit through AP coursework and Academy electives.  With the proper coursework, students can earn a General Education Certificate from John Tyler Community College.
