Dear Bon Air Families,

We had a great week at Bon Air Elementary! Please click here to see a video with some exciting highlights from this past week.

 

Talent Show:  We are so excited for our upcoming Talent Show!  Talent Show auditions are Wednesday, Jan 30th at 4pm and Thursday, Jan 31st at 5pm in the cafeteria. It's not too late to sign up! The deadline to sign up has been extended to Tuesday, January 29th.  Click here for the sign-up form in English and click here for the sign-up form in Spanish. We can’t wait to see all of the wonderful talent at BAES!

School Dance:  Our school dance is this Tuesday, January 29th, from 6:30-7:30 PM in the cafeteria.  The theme for the dance is a Glow Party. Come dressed in your neon or white. There is no cost to attend the dance, and it is not a drop-off event.  A parent/guardian must attend the dance with their child. Click here for more information.

We are so proud:  Mrs. Nathanson has been leading a book study for our staff focused on student engagement through the book, The Wild Card.  Chesterfield County Public Schools’ public relations department created a video to document some of the work our teachers have been doing in this area.  We are so proud of our teachers and the numerous hours of hard work they put into room transformations to make learning fun and engaging for our students! The 7 Habits and the Leader in Me Program:  Bon Air Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me school.  We are offering two events in February for our families to learn more about the 7 habits and the Leader in Me program.  Please RSVP if you plan to attend one or both of these events.  Click here for the form in English and click here for the form in Spanish. These events include:

Parent Town Hall Meeting- Monday, February 11, 2019 at 6:30 PM  

We invite parents to come learn more about the 7 habits and how to incorporate them into your home. The intended audience for this meeting is for adults, however, children may attend with parents.

Leadership Day- Friday, February 15, 2019- Registration begins at 7:30 AM, program begins at 7:45 AM and concludes at 10:30 AM.

Student placement for next year:  As the first semester concludes and we begin to plan for next year, please see the information below about student placement:

The administration does not accept parental requests for specific teachers; however, every child’s placement is extremely important to us. All staff members who work with a child have input as to the best placement for him/her. The child’s current teacher(s) recommends to us the type of class to which he/she should be assigned based on the child’s achievement, behavior, and other factors. The administration reviews all recommendations and adjusts the class rolls as appropriate, based on student enrollment. If you desire a particular teaching style for your child, you may submit a letter to the principal by March 1st. Although, realistically, no promises can be made in terms of honoring such requests, they will be considered during our placement process. Requests for your child not to be placed with another student, for whatever reason, should be noted in writing to your child’s present classroom teacher and the administration.

 

We have REALLY amazing student leaders at Bon Air Elementary!  Below is some information from some of the fantastic projects they are leading.  


Change the World

The Student Lighthouse Team is collecting spare change--coins or bills--to send a donation to Burgaw Elementary School in Pender County, North Carolina to help replace classroom materials and books after the devastation of Hurricane Florence. We want to use our change to change the world! We will collect money for the project December 10, 2018--February 1, 2019.  Student can just bring the money to their homerooms and the Student Lighthouse Team will take care of the rest.


Dear parents, our school is donating soda bottle tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. Please remind your kids to bring them in. Thank you, Danny Arel and River Klammer

Friday, February 15th-  3-hour early release

 

Important updates:   

Clinic Donations:  Our clinic is in need of sandwich size ziploc bags and 2-ply tissues without lotion.  If you are able to donate any of these items, please send them to school with your child and label them “Clinic”.

James River High School’s International Night:  James River High School is hosting an International Night in partnership with James River Reads on Tuesday, March 5th, from 6:00-8:00 PM to celebrate the diversity that is James River.  Click here  for more information.

Save the Date:  The Bon Air PTA 5K will be held on Saturday, April 27th.  More information will be coming soon!

Save the Date-  Field Day:  Field day will be held on Friday, March 15th, and the rain date will be Monday, March 18th this year.  Our main field will be closed beginning April 1st due to construction for the Crestwood project, so we are planning to hold field day in March.  This will allow us to have events on our field before construction begins.

Gifted Referral Deadlines:  The follow dates are deadlines for referrals for gifted identification referrals:  

March 15th- Kindergarten- 1st grade
