My name is Dr. Elizabeth Stefanko and this my sixth year as your principal. I came to Smith from Winterpock Elementary where I served as Assistant Principal for four years. Prior to Winterpock, I was an Assistant Principal for six years at Greenfield Elementary and a teacher for nine years at Salem Church Elementary. I loved teaching and taught 2, 3 and 4 grades over those 9 years.

I received my undergraduate degree from Randolph Macon College in 1992. My Masters in Education was completed in 1996 from Virginia Commonwealth University. I received my Doctorate in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2014. As you can see, I believe strongly in being a lifelong learner.

I am a proud mother of two boys. My husband is a teacher and coach at Cosby High School. Between the boys’ events, my husband’s games and my schooling, we are very busy. We enjoy traveling and going to sporting events. I am an avid or maybe “rabid” Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan. So any given day, I am glued to the tv yelling for my team.

I am proud of our school and the teachers, students, and community. Please feel free to talk to me about ways we as a school can achieve even more.

Hello Smith families, my name is Jana Kline and I am thrilled and honored to be your Assistant Principal.  Prior to joining the staff at Smith, I served as Assistant Principal at Harrowgate Elementary for four years.  I began my career in administration as the Administrative Assistant at Evergreen Elementary for a year after having taught fourth grade there for four.  When my family moved to Chesterfield County, I taught fourth grade at Marguerite Christian Elementary for three years.

I am a native of Tennessee and began my teaching career in grades 3 through 5.  I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from East Tennessee State University and my Masters and Education Specialist degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee. My husband’s job transferred us to Chesapeake and while teaching there, I completed my Administration and Supervision Endorsement from the University of Virginia.

I live in Midlothian with my husband, two children and our Beagle rescue dog.  Our daughter will be starting high school and our son will be starting middle school this year.  My husband and I love watching Tennessee and SEC football when we’re not at the baseball and softball fields supporting the Kline kiddos.  I enjoy reading, walking and spending time with my family; many times all of those are done at the ball field!

I believe in classroom and school communities and forming personal relationships with students - which leads to establishing connections with families.  I am excited to be a part of the Smith community!
