Administration

Hello Smith families, my name is Jana Kline and I am thrilled and honored to be your Principal!  Before becoming your Assistant Principal last year, I served as Assistant Principal at Harrowgate Elementary. I began my career in administration as the Administrative Assistant at Evergreen Elementary after having taught fourth grade there. When my family moved to Chesterfield County, I taught fourth grade at Marguerite Christian Elementary.

I am a native of Tennessee and began my teaching career in grades 3 through 5.  I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from East Tennessee State University and my Masters and Education Specialist degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Tennessee. My husband’s job transferred us to Chesapeake and while teaching there, I completed my Administration and Supervision Endorsement from the University of Virginia.

I live in Midlothian with my husband, two children and our Beagle rescue dog.  I have a high school aged daughter and a middle school aged son who both attend CCPS schools.  My husband and I love watching Tennessee and SEC football when we’re not at the baseball and softball fields supporting the Kline kiddos.  I enjoy reading, walking and spending time with my family; many times all of those are done at the ball field!

I believe in classroom and school communities and forming personal relationships with students - which leads to establishing connections with families.  I look forward to building new relationships and continuing the great work here at Smith!

Hello Smith families!

My name is Laura Marshall and I am thrilled to be a Shark and the Assistant Principal of Alberta Smith Elementary.

What do you get when you combine a Hokie and a Ram?  ME!  I have a bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Development, as well as a master’s degree in Elementary Education, from Virginia Tech.  In December 2010, I received my endorsement in Administration/Supervision from VCU, and -- ever a life-long learner – I most recently received my Doctorate in Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University in May of 2017.

I have two children; a son (Ryan) and a daughter (Katelyn), both of whom keep my husband and me on ballfields most evenings and weekends (and we wouldn’t have it any other way).  However, in my free time, I love reading, running, exploring, learning, and doing new things with my family and friends.

I could not be more proud to play a part in supporting Smith students and their families as we work together to develop creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in our kids! I believe that a successful year, full of learning and growth, is rooted in the relationships we establish with our students, their families, and the community of support we foster within our very special school

Sincerely,

Dr. Laura Marshall
