University of Montevallo Preview Day

2018-2019 Young Entrepreneurs Academy

The Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce is offering a fantastic opportunity!  The Young Entrepreneurs Academy is taking student applications through May 22nd.  (See the attached application for more details.)


YEA! guides students through the process of starting and running a legitimate business or social movement over the course of a full academic year. YEA! has graduated over 4,000 students since 2004, who have started over 3,000 businesses and social movements! Kids start as students and graduate as CEOs!

 

Over the course of the program students:

  • Brainstorm business ideas
  • Write a business plan
  • Interact with business professionals
  • Pitch their business plan to potential “investors” (think Shark Tank meets the Apprentice meets American Idol.)
  • Legally register their businesses
  • Participate in a Trade Show
  • Actually launch their own businesses or social movements

Naval Academy Information Meeting

The Naval Academy Blue and Gold Officers will have an Information Session at the Huntsville Library on Tuesday, May 15th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. for all students (middle through high school), parents, and friends who want to learn more about the Naval Academy and becoming an officer in the Navy or Marine Corps. Our local Blue and Gold Officers will be available to answer questions and give a presentation about the Academy and admissions process.

Patsy Blackwood Doherty Scholarship 2018

Friends and family of Mrs. Patsy Blackwood Doherty will be offering the opportunity for current seniors to apply for a college scholarship that has been set up in her honor.  This scholarship was created in 2010 in honor of Mrs. Doherty's dedication to the students of West Point High School.

Interested applicants should complete the application and return it to Mrs. Yearwood by May 16th.  Applications are available in the Guidance Hallway Shelves and attached below.

ACT Prep Workshop

Kenneth Ball Technical Scholarship 2018

In loving memory and dedication, the Kenneth Ball family will be offering a scholarship to one West Point High School student planning to major in a career technical field.  The recipient of the scholarship will be announced at graduation.  Applications are due to Mrs. Yearwood by Wednesday, May 9th.

Preference given to Building Construction majors.

Elizabeth Whitesell Scholarship 2018

Elizabeth Ann Whitesell, Bethie to her family and friends, was born in 1995 in Huntsville, AL and moved to the West Point area in 1999.  She went to West Point Elementary School through second grade when she died in an accident at her home.  She enjoyed fishing, butterflies, planting flowers, going to school, dancing at West Main Studio, and making friends.  Bethie was a happy girl with a joyful spirit.  Her family has created this scholarship to honor her memory and to provide assistance to a girl like her.

The Elizabeth Ann Whitesell Memorial Scholarship is available for a West Point High School female senior.  The recipient will be chosen from qualified applicants based on responses to a written and possible in-person interview.  The scholarship recipient must already be accepted and enrolled in an accredited four year or junior college.  The scholarship is for $5,500 per year and is renewable for 4 years for a total award value of $22,000.  During college, the recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain enrolled as a full time student to be eligible for a renewal.

To apply for this scholarship, please provide written responses to the following questions.  Responses may be typed or hand written.  For each question feel free to provide as much detail as you want to tell your story.  Your responses should be completed and submitted to Mrs. Yearwood by the end of the school day on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.
  1. Tell us who you are; full name, address, contact phone number
  2. Tell us about your academic performance at West Point; GPA, Class Rank, ACT, SAT
  3. What were your favorite classes and experiences at West Point?  Least favorite?
  4. When you aren't in school, what do you spend your time doing?  Why?
  5. Tell us about your family situation.  What about it motivates you for the future?
  6. Where are you going to college and why?  What do you plan to get out of the experience?
  7. If you could write your own future, where do you see yourself in 5, 10, 20 years?
  8. If you could change one thing about your self, what would it be?
  9. Why would you make a good recipient of this memorial scholarship?
  10. What else should we know about you?
All submissions are due to Mrs. Yearwood by Wednesday, May 9, 2018.  No late submissions.

Former Headstart Student Scholarship 2018

Applications for a scholarship available to all former "RIF kids" (Headstart or State Sponsored Daycare Students) in Alabama who are high school graduates and plan to go on to higher education opportunities in the Fall of 2018.

The Board of the Alabama Kiwanis Foundation, Inc. has made the funds available again for a $500 scholarship to be awarded to a deserving young Alabamian who received RIF books from the Jean Dean RIF Program.

Applications are due to Mrs. Yearwood by Monday, April 2nd for transcripts and mailing.   The application is attached below.

The awarding of the scholarship this year is in honor of the 28th year of Jean Dean Reading Is Fundamental, signature service project of the Alabama Kiwanis Foundation, Inc. The winner will be announced on the website www.jeandeanrif.org by April 20th, 2018.

Alabama Home Builders Foundation Scholarship 2018

  • Residential construction-related major
