Professional Information:

I have lived in Cullman County all of my life and am a graduate of Cullman County Schools.  I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education Mathematics from Athens State University.  I have received a Masters in Secondary Education Mathematics and an Educational Specialist Degree in Secondary Education Mathematics from the University of Alabama.  I am also a National Board Certified teacher.  I began my teaching career at Holly Pond High School and then transferred to Fairview High School in the fall of 1999.

I serve as the treasurer for the Cullman County Education Association and for UNISERV district 8.  I am also a member of the District AEA Legislative Contact Committee and the State AEA EPPP Commission.

Personal Information

I married Jerry Mitchell in 1982.  He does maintenance work for the Pilgrim’s Pride feed mill in Falkville.  We have four children, two from his previous marriage and two of our own.  All of them are Fairview High School graduates.  Tonya and her husband Keith are both engineers and live in Bessemer with their two sons Ethan (10) and Isaac (6) they are expecting their third son, Asher, in January; Tony lives in Arab and is disabled; Tyler lives in Fairview; she is teaching special needs children at the Child Development Center. Tara and her husband James are expecting their first child, Adeline.  They live in Memphis and she is in her third year of her pediatric residency at Lebonheur Childrens and St. Judes hospitals. 


My family attends church at the Twelfth Avenue Church of God in Arab.  Jerry is one of the Adult Sunday School teachers, Tyler teaches the Wednesday night High School class, and I fill in on Wednesday evening Bible Study.  I serve as the State Treasurer for the Alabama General Assembly of the Church of God.  


In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family.  I also enjoy fishing, various types of needle work, gardening, and reading.
