Tammy Cordeiro

St Stephens High School

I received a Bachelor of Arts in French from Lenoir-Rhyne University. While at Lenoir-Rhyne, I spent a semester in Avignon, France at the Institut pour les Universités Américains. I also had a minor in Spanish and spent 3 summers in Barcelona, Spain. I went back to school and received my Master’s in Library Science from Appalachian State University. I am currently the librarian at St. Stephens High School, where I have worked for 5 years. Before that, I taught French levels 1-5 at Fred T. Foard High school for 8 ½ years and I taught French and Dance and even 1 year of Spanish at Jacobs Fork Middle School. I am starting my 26th year in education. I am National Board Certified and I also am certified to teach AIG. I enjoy traveling and I have taken many student trips to Europe as well as personal trips to Europe and Quebec. I am married and I have 2 daughters.

I am certified to teach Spanish and ESL from K-12th grade. Attended Universidad Laica Vicente Rocafuerte in my home country Ecuador. I obtained my EFL(English as a Foreign Language) certification. I have been a teacher for the last 20 years. I have worked for Catawba County Schools since 2003. I have also taught Spanish for Educators at CVCC. I am always excited to find authentic material to share with her students to expose them to a real application of the language.

I am native Spanish speaker born in Mexico. Teaching is my second career which I have been enjoying for the past seven years. I graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelors in Social Work and I am also a North Carolina Certified Teacher in ESL and Spanish. My prior teaching experiences include CVCC Continuing Education, St. Stephen’s Lutheran School, and Newton Conover High School.

My goal is to provide students with a strong foundation and understanding of the Spanish language with emphasis on the 5 C’s: Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities.

This is my 6th year teaching Spanish at Bunker Hill High School. I graduated from St. Stephens High School and have lived in Hickory area most of my life. I studied for my bachelors degree at Lenoir-Rhyne University and graduated in 2012. I am a mom of 4 and spend most of my free time with my kids or making cakes.

Jennifer Pendley

Maiden High School

I am the Media Coordinator at Maiden High School and have worked there since 1997. I graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University and received my Masters degree from ECU. At MHS, I am the webmaster and lead technology instruction for our staff and students. Prior to my current position, I taught Spanish, ESL and was the Yearbook advisor. I live in Newton with my husband, son and daughter.

I taught English and Spanish at Bunker Hill for 15 years. I also taught Spanish and served as a literacy coach at River Bend. Currently, I am an academic facilitator at Catawba Elementary. I earned my masters degree from Appalachian State and I am also a National Board Certified teacher. I have a daughter at Appalachian State who is working on a masters in speech therapy and a son at NC State University who is a nuclear engineering major.
