Program

Notice: April 2013

The program for the MESSENGER-BepiColombo Joint Science Meeting is now posted.  See you in Chicago April 22-24, 2013.

Meeting location

Congress Plaza Hotel, Chicago in the Windsor Room.

Meeting format

The program is designed around the principal of encouraging deep, extended, and interdisciplinary discussions regarding the makeup and history of the planet Mercury.

Each day of the meeting will begin with two invited overview presentations.  These talks will be followed by a series of presentations on more in-depth topics.  An extended period of discussion is encouraged on all topics.

To further encourage discussions on meeting topics, each day will include a period dedicated to Open Microphone and a Group Discussion lead by a panel.

Poster displays will be available throughout most of the meeting and there will be a dedicated poster session period during the middle of the second day.

Information for Presenters

A standard projector, screen, and microphone will be provided.  You will be welcome to bring your own laptop, if you do so, please be sure to bring any special adapters (e.g., for Macs) that you will need.

Oral Presentations: Invited Overviews will be 30 minutes in length.  All other oral presentations will be 15 minutes in length.  These limits are exclusive of question and answer discussion periods at the end of each presentation.

Posters: A single poster board 48” x 48” has been reserved for each poster presentation. Posters may be mounted using binder clips, which will be provided by the organizers. Clear plastic tape will be available for posters that require it. Poster boards are 1/4" white foam core mounted on sturdy tripod easels. To aid in attaching posters to the foam core boards poster presenters are encouraged to make posters as close to 48” x 48” as they can accommodate.  Posters will be placed in the Alcove room at the beginning of the first day (April 22).

Poster Adverts/Flash Talks: Individuals accorded a poster presentation are encouraged to make an advertisement of their poster in a Flash Talk.  These Flash Talks will occur during scheduled Open Microphone time on the first day or immediately preceding the poster session Tuesday, April 23.  Flash Talks will be strictly limited to 1 (one) slide and 2 (two) minutes of speaking time.  Flash Talks will be submitted to a session chair in advance of the Open Microphone session and pre-loaded and timed.  If time allows at the end of all scheduled Flash Talks,  additional discussions will be permitted at the discretion of the Session Chairs.

Open Microphone: In addition to poster adverts, any participant may, time permitting, may address the Workshop, make an extended point, react to presentations and discussion, or encourage additional discussion.  Participants may utilize a single (1) slide following the guidelines for Flash Talks as well.
