Information Technology Services (ITS) will be performing a major upgrade to its data centers during early January as part of its Internet Capital Improvement Project. This upgrade will greatly enhance the data center firewalls that are used to protect the university’s network, essential services and data. The data center firewalls will become more reliable, flexible and faster; its 10 Gigabit pipeline will increase network throughput tenfold and decrease network latency. This essential improvement builds upon work already completed throughout the project, which began in the fall of 2010 and standardizes campus firewalls on proven technology already in place at the edge.
There will be intermittent outages of campus network services during the upgrade, scheduled to take place January 4th and January 11th. Data centers in Crawford Hall and the Kelvin Smith library will be affected.
ITS remains committed to delivering robust network services to the university community. This includes continuous efforts to improve, maintain and enhance the performance, availability and security of the campus network.
