Cascadia Irish Music Week

July 19-25, 2020 at The Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington

Welcome to our website. If you love Irish traditional music, Cascadia Irish Music Week is a great opportunity to improve your playing and deepen your understanding of one of the world’s great musical traditions. Explore our website and let us know if you have questions not answered here. We’re delighted to once again welcome some of the world’s finest Irish traditional musicians and we hope you can join us this summer.

Think of Irish traditional music as a language, and Cascadia Irish Music Week as an immersion program. At Cascadia you’ll be surrounded by traditional music all week long, played by our excellent teachers and by fellow students. You'll play in sessions, attend classes, hear afternoon talks by the teachers plus intimate evening concerts. By the end of the week you'll come away with some new tunes and a deeper sense of how the music feels and sounds, as well as advice on technique from excellent teachers. All that plus a week of great fun with wonderful people!

Coronavirus statement

Dear friends,

As you know, the coronavirus outbreak is causing everyone to rethink their travel and event plans, so we’ve been carefully tracking the situation and discussing how best to respond. Our board has been meeting and we’ve come up with the following policies:

• As of now we are planning to go forward with Cascadia Irish Music Week, July 19-25, at Evergreen State College in Olympia.
• We will continue to assess the situation and will make a decision by May 12, 2020, whether to go ahead with the event.
• If at any time the event is canceled, we will reimburse all registrants in full.
• If you’re already registered but feel you need to cancel, we will reimburse you in full. if you inform us by May 12, 2020.

We’re required to commit a large, nonrefundable sum to the venue by May 19th if we’re going ahead, and of course we’ll need to put out another large sum for airfares to bring our teachers. So a definite decision has to be made by mid-May. We feel these policies will enable everyone to plan and feel confident, however it turns out.

We want to be flexible and responsive to our community’s concerns. We’re very open to hearing from you about all this and we hope you’ll hang in there with us and see how it unfolds.  A number of events here in the Northwest scheduled for March have been postponed until June or July, so hopefully the situation will stabilize by then and we’ll be able to feel confident about going ahead.
