About the Teacher

I graduated with from West Georgia College in 1995 with a degree in Early Childhood education and soon after earned a master's degree in ECE, as well from the University of West Georgia. I began teaching 4th grade in Clayton County at Pointe South Elementary for three years, and transferred to Douglas County and taught 3rd grade for two years at L.W. Burnette.  As I enter my 16th year at Carrollton City Schools and 21st year in my teaching career I am currently teaching 3rd grade math, science, and social studies at Carrollton Elementary. I have taught 1st grade, 4th, and 5th during my career with Carrollton City Schools. I was honored in 2003 to be named the Carrollton Elementary Teacher of the Year and went on to win the System Wide Teacher of the Year honors the following school year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my journey with the CCS's system and feel blessed to be able to teach in such a loving, supportive community. It is truly amazing to watch these children grow up and excel as they grow as learners through our beautiful campus.  I am very excited to be back home at CES and have the opportunity to work with your students.
On a personal note, my husband of 21 years, James Melson and I have two children. Our daughter Cami Melson is a senior at CHS, and our son Noah is in the 5th grade at CMS. They have both been in the CCS's school system since PreK, and we have been very pleased with their all around strong education. They are both student athletes and continue to excel in academically and in all of their extra curricular activities. I take great pride in not only watching my own children succeed, but I always have that same passion for watching your's succeed, too!
