The Volume Apps Store allows schools to purchase apps at half their regular iTunes Store price, if apps are purchased in quantities of 20 or more copies. Our school district has purchased a common set of app tools and provided these to our staff for their iPads.
The model that iOS devices use for software distribution is different from our traditional procedures with laptops and other computers. iOS apps are tied to an iTunes account where generally software is purchased by the district and tied to a computer. There is no easy process to install these apps ahead of time as they need to be tied to an iTunes account. A distribution process for these apps needed to be developed. We wanted a process that would be very simple for the end users (our staff). We choose a process that involved distribution of these apps through email. The email below was sent to each staff member with codes for them to install the apps provided. All each staff member needed to do was click the links provided in the email to install these apps.
This distribution process seemed to have worked well for us with very little issues from staff.
