Cancer Support Community

The mission of the Cancer Support Community is to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.
Laura Rossmann has been the Executive Director at Cancer
Support Community of Greater St. Louis since 2008.
Here's an update from Laura on what's new at the Cancer Support Community:

We are wrapping up 2012 and are thankful for another year of helping those whose lives are affected by cancer.  We have met so many wonderful people who inspire us every day.

We are excited to be entering 2013 because it is our 20th Anniversary.  We have events planned throughout the year to celebrate the founders, all those who have been helped over the 20 year history, and to kickoff another 20 year.   Join us in January for the Soup Cook-Off which will feature CSC Chefs making soup.  The Chefs will compete to win the title of “CSC Best Soup 2013.”  The Soup Cook-Off is Wednesday, January 20 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Starting in January, we will begin construction on a small expansion of our current facility.  We will be converting our current conference room into a new, much-needed large support group room that will be able to seat up to 25 people.  We will, therefore, be building a new conference room in an adjacent space.   Our wonderful landlords, Land Dynamics, will also be helping us freshen up the space with new carpeting and a fresh coat of paint.

In October and November we had a six-week program – Moves that Matter, Inspiration Through Chess – in partnership with new community partner, World Chess Hall of Fame.  Thanks to the help of volunteer and Junior Board member, Jeff Till, 10 people learned how to play chess and forget about their cancer for a little while.  We are partnering again in February and March to bring Moves that Matter to children, age 5-17.

We want to thank three other community partners who recently held fundraisers for CSC:  The Waiting Room Bar, Waterway Gas and Wash, and Blown Away.  Thanks to everyone who participated in making these so successful.
We are looking for volunteers several evenings each month to greet people coming in for programs and give tours to first-time visitors.  We are specifically looking for volunteers on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., on the 2nd Monday of every month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on the 3rd Monday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.  If you are interested, please contact Gabby Fish at 314-238-2000 for more information or to sign up.
