Miss Hyman was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia.  She actually went to Tomahawk Elementary, Brookville Middle and graduated from Brookville High School in 2009.  She graduated from Longwood University with a degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Elementary Education in 2013. Miss Hyman taught fifth grade at Tomahawk before moving to fourth.  Miss Hyman enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach and the pool, relaxing, and shopping. She is incredibly excited for this year and can't wait to work with new students! 

Mrs.Kiger grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia.  She attended Sheffield Elementary, Sandusky Elementary and she graduated from Heritage High School.   She is a graduate from Lynchburg College with a degree in Education.  She started teaching in 2000.  Mrs. Kiger taught first grade at William Marvin Bass Elementary for 3 years and then moved to Tomahawk where she has been ever since.  She taught first grade for 14 years before exploring the exciting world of fourth grade.  Mrs. Kiger is married to her wonderful husband Chris. Their son Jordan attends Brookville Middle School.  She enjoys reading, traveling, and wake boarding.  Her favorite color is pink and she loves eating at La Carreta.  Her favorite children’s book is Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.  She looks forward to getting to know her students each year and helping them reach their full potential. 

Mrs.Mayhew was born and raised in Manassas, Virginia. Growing up she always admired her fourth grade teacher and loved to “play” school with the neighborhood kids. Which explains why, she attended and graduated from Lynchburg College with a degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Mayhew has had the joy of teaching fourth graders at Tomahawk Elementary school since 2005. Outside of school she enjoys spending time with her husband, Andy and two beautiful daughters, Jillian and Hadley. Some of her favorite things to do are relax, read a good book, go to the beach/pool, shop, and spend time with family and friends. Mrs. Mayhew looks forward to each and every year of teaching, growing, and having fun with her students.  

Ms.Reynolds was born in Beckley, West Virginia but grew up in Lynchburg where she graduated from E.C. Glass High School.  She worked as a paralegal for 13 years with a focus on medical malpractice claims.  Ms. Reynolds went on to earn a Master's Degree from Randolph College with endorsements in both elementary education and special education while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average!  She graduated Magna Cum Laude, was recognized as a Teacher of Promise, and received the Outstanding Intern Teacher Award.  Ms. Reynolds launched her teaching career in 2010 at Tomahawk.   She also served as the Child Study Chair.  She enjoys the tranquility and natural beauty of her Amherst County home, tucked away in the mountains of Elon.  Her interests include writing, playing chess, solving puzzles, gardening, music, camping, interior decorating, and holiday traditions.  She is also an active supporter of rescue animals and enjoys caring for her 2 dogs (Chelsea and Wilson) and 2 cats (Sadie and Phoenix).  


Mrs.Sligh had the wonderful opportunity of being born and raised in Lynchburg, VA.  She attended T.C. Miller Elementary School, Sandusky Jr. High School, Dunbar High School, and graduated from E.C. Glass High School.  She then enrolled at Longwood University as a Music Major and then went on to graduate from Lynchburg College with a degree in Education.  She worked at Brookville Middle School for 4 years and has been at Tomahawk since 1991.  She taught Kindergarten for 6 years before moving to 4th Grade.  Mrs. Sligh has been teaching for 25 years with so many children making a difference in her life.  She has been blessed with a wonderful family.  Her husband of 38 years is a retired city Firefighter.  They have 2 daughters and one son, and four beautiful and special grandchildren.  One thing you might not know about her is that she has twins, and one of her twins is the guidance counselor at BMS.  She enjoy living in the country, playing the piano, sewing, knitting, crocheting, cooking, canning, and painting.  She likes to ride her bike, take long walks in the woods, swim, and work in her garden.  She hopes to continue to educate many new excited children and learn from them in the years to come at Tomahawk Elementary School.
