  • English Update (Periods 1-2)
    Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone is having a great week!

    Updates in English:

    - We took a test on "The Express" on Tuesday, 9/11.
    - Our next unit consists of the "Literary (Narrative) Elements" (Plot, conflict, theme, setting, point-of-view, characterization, etc.).
    - I am attaching an introductory PowerPoint with notes on the Literary Elements to aid in helping the students (also on our class files section of the website).

    Reading Goals:
I assigned individual reading goals to students and explained to them the 9-weeks assignment on Friday and Monday. Their task is to read, take an Accelerated Reader test, and meet their reading goal. These are individual goals and are intended to meet the needs and challenge each individual student. These are due by October 5. Mrs. Mace and I helped students "chunk" their books to break them into manageable portions to read each night. Please review this with the students and discuss their reading. We also recommend they finish their first book by September 21, however, finishing earlier is highly recommended!

I am reattaching the "Remind!" instructions on how to sign up for classroom updates. I highly recommend this to stay in touch with homework, assignments, and other important classroom information.

If you have any questions, please let me know! Please stay safe this weekend!!

  • Update - 9/4/18
    Good Afternoon,

I hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend!

We completed our unit on genres & subgenres on Friday. Today, we began discussing roots & affixes (please see attached notes - also on Google Classroom), context clues, and literary elements. The literature we are using with the skills is a narrative nonfiction titled, "The Express".

The literature and vocabulary are located on Google Classroom. My hope is to have a test on "The Express" & the vocabulary on Friday or Monday and then begin focusing on our literary elements.

If you have any questions, please let me know! Also, thank you to those who have signed up for Remind and for those who would still like to, the instructions are on our classroom website.
