  • English 7 Update (11.27.17)
    Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Break!

This week we will continue with our unit on organizational patterns. The goal is to have an assessment on it closer to the end of this week or early next week. I will update everyone as we get closer to it. In the meantime, I am attaching the documents I sent out at the beginning of the unit for you to study. Please note they are also on OneNote as well as on our class website under "Class Files".

We will also continue with our novel Thanksgiving Treasure. We will tie in the organizational patterns into the novel as well as other skills and critical thinking strategies. As we read through it, students are to keep up with their annotations for each chapter on their own paper as well as the assignments for each chapter. At the end of the novel, students will turn on all the annotations for each chapter as well as all the assignments. Students were informed if they miss school, it is their responsibility to read what they missed and complete their annotations and assignments and then I'll review the work with them.

Also, please remember the nonfiction and fiction reading goals (two SEPARATE grades and assignments) are due by December 15.

Students, along with the daily in-class reading response logs are to be completing a scavenger hunt that helps them apply the organizational patterns to their daily reading.

    Thank you,

  • Update for Periods 6 - 7 (11/10/17)
    Good Afternoon,

The "Theme in Music" essay grades are now on Parent-Portal. I highly recommend you go to Google Classroom and review the comments. If you have any questions, please let me know!

If any students would like a chance to earn a higher grade, please read over my comments and rewrite the essay. Please resubmit the essay on Google Classroom. This is due no later than Friday, November 17.

Please remember, the essay and comments can be found on Google Classroom. If you hand wrote the essay, I have your copy with comments.

Also, any student who has retaken a test, the grades are also now on Parent-Portal.

I hope everyone stays warm and has a great weekend!

    Thank you,

  • Update for November 6 - 10
    Happy FRIDAY!

On Monday, we will have an assessment on the short-story "The Black Cat". Students completed a study guide today, Friday, November 3. The notes for this short-story were e-mailed home earlier in the week.

We will then transition to our next unit on the nonfiction organizational patterns/text structures. This is a difficult unit with an abundant amount of information. I highly encourage you to study the notes nightly. The nonfiction independent reading goals we are completing will correlate with this unit and help students to apply what they learn in class to their reading.

I am attaching three documents I encourage you to look at before beginning the unit next week. I also encourage students to look at these documents and notes to help them understand the material.

Document 1: Graphic Organizer (This helps the students know how to organize each nonfiction organizational pattern and what graphic organizer to use for each one.)

Document 2: Text Structure Handout (this document puts the information in a more concise document for studying and understanding the material)

Document 3: Introduction to Organizational Patterns PowerPoint (This is an introduction to the nonfiction organizational patterns).

The nonfiction organizational patterns they need to know are the following: chronological / sequential order; cause and effect; problem-solution; compare and contrast; enumeration or listing; concept-definition; generalization; process

Just a reminder on upcoming assignments:

    1. "The Black Cat" test is on Monday, 11/6
    2. Theme in Music Essay is due on Monday, 11/6. (periods 6 & 7 only)

    4. Remediation work for "Seventh Grade" to retake the test is due on Wednesday, 11/8 (please note this is the correct date - my previous e-mail stated it is due on Monday.)
