  • Careers & Aspirations Project (May 2, 2018)

    Good Morning!

First of all, thank you for all your support at home for all the students thus far!

I want to give everyone an update on our classroom over the next few weeks. We will begin a research project on careers and aspirations.  Each student will have the chance to complete this individually so they can explore exactly what interests him or her the most.

By the end of the project, each student will have a better understanding of their future options. The intention is to open their eyes to careers they are interested in as well as other careers. They will research and hear about many requirements and specifics about each career such as the needed education, job responsibilities, average salary, etc. Each student will also reflect on their plan to reach this career as well as how they will succeed in the career.

After getting an idea on each student's career goals, I am hoping to bring in some members of our community to talk with the students.

I hope this will be not only educational for each student, but also motivational to give them an idea of their future endeavors!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me!

  • SOL Review Update (4.17.18)
    Good Morning!

I hope everyone is doing well and had minimal or no damage from the recent tornado! Please reach out if there are ways I can help!

As we approach the Reading/English SOL (May 1), I am attaching a study guide for you to use with your children. Each student received a hard copy of the study guide (students in periods 1/2 will receive it on Wednesday). At the top of it, you will find due dates and a parent initial column. Please initial after completion each night and have your child bring it to school.

Students are continuing to review for the SOLs and have a copious amount of study material they may use to help them in their studying and review.

As we go through the material, you will notice more grades than normal on Parent-Portal. Please be aware not every single grade will affect the "final grade". I organized our SOL review into different units. I am taking the average of each unit as the "final grade" that will affect the final grade. Many of the review quizzes have four or five questions, so if you notice a 50 or 75 grade, it means your child missed one or two questions. This is the reason I take an average at the end of the unit. To help you and the children, I am labeling each skill we are reviewing so you can talk with your child or children about each skill as we progress.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

I hope everyone has a great day!

  • Classroom Update (3/26/18)
    Good Morning!

Spring Break is almost upon us!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 27, students will take the Figurative Language Assessment. Students have notes in their binder, OneNote, and on our classroom website to study. Students were informed if they wanted to print off the study guide (or any other material) they completed and reviewed in class, they may do that as well.

After the Figurative Language Assessment, we will begin our SOL Review. I will update you periodically on the skills we are currently reviewing so you may review them at home as well. Please be reminded, our Reading SOL is Tuesday, May 1.

After Spring Break, I will send home a SOL Study Guide for students to review. I highly encourage parents and guardians to review it with the students as well.

In the meantime, please continue reading for the final reading goal.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!
