  • Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) Testing in full swing For the past few weeks, students in Caldwell School District's 3rd through 11th grade have been participating in the SBAC Test pilot. This new test replaces the old Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) and is aligned to the new Idaho Common Core Standards in Mathematics and English Language Arts. According to the Idaho State Department of Education:"The field test is essentially a “dress rehearsal,” or an opportunity for all Idaho schools to test the test. Any time the state transitions to a new assessment, our state conducts a Field Test in order to test the validity and reliability of the new test questions. Elementary teachers use Developing Mathematical Thinking strategies in their classrooms to help students develop "numeracy". This approach to teaching and learning focuses not on memorizing number facts but on developing the ability to reason mathematically and to apply numerical concepts in real-world settings.
