Guidelines

This includes the requirements for the final submission of your Master’s thesis and includes information regarding materials, formatting and submission.

 Non-adherence to these guidelines may affect your graduation requirements.

Materials:

Paper:

COPY 1 - Special collections copy: At least 25 % cotton, 20 lb paper (white).  Standard xerographic bond is not acceptable.  Do not use Staples brand. Final thesis must be laser printed.

COPY 2 - Access copy: May be printed on standard xerographic bond paper, but must be laser printed.

*Do not use three hole report covers.

Printing:

Final copy must be laser printed.

Formatting:

All thesis should be typed, neat, and with no strikeovers or handwritten corrections.

*For Office 2007 users: Remove space after paragraph

Margins

Left: 1.5”

Right: 1”

Top: 1”

Bottom: 1”

Footer: .5”

Pagination:

·         Centered at bottom of page

·         All pages are numbered, except for title page

·         Preliminary pages: Roman numerals; Text: Arabic numbers

Text

Preliminary pages:

·         Title page

·         Signature page that includes both the 1st reader’s and Dean’s name typed and with signature

·         Table of Contents

·         List of figures and/or tables (if applicable)

·         Abstract: 125 - 175 words

Text:

·         Introduction or preface

·         Text – divided into chapters or sections

·         Appendices (if any)

·         Works cited – all in-text citations and works cited should follow the MLA style.  Please see the 2009 edition of the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers.

Copyright

Review of copyrighted material within theses will occur on a case by case basis.  Inclusion of copyrighted material may restrict access to your thesis. 

Submission

Submission of thesis to library:

1)      Submission to library: Two paper copies must be submitted to the library.  One copy will be incorporated into Special Collections; a second copy will be made available for in-library use.

2)      Electronic submission: All theses must be submitted electronically, as one document.  Do not submit multiple PDF documents.  The final electronic submission must be in PDF.

DO NOT SEND ELECTRONIC COPY TO BRENA SMITH

If the document is too large to submit via email you may submit your electronic copy on a CD/DVD

3) Paper submission MUST be made in person to Brena Smith on or before the May 19th deadline.
