Lyrics

In 2007, I wrote lyrics to a set of beautiful songs written by Marco Spatuzzi for the group MEMORIA. The songs were inspired by the movie Blade Runner. Blade Runner is one of the most popular and influential science-fiction films of all time - and it has become an enduring cult classic favorite. It was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer and Sean Young. The screenplay, written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, is loosely based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.

The movie overwhelms the senses and preys on our morals, revealing fundamental truths and insight about human nature - What does it mean to be human? What role does empathy play? What do I know of myself? What is my true nature?

With our music and lyrics, we tried capturing those themes found throughout the film. Twenty-five songs in total were written for this project.

One Summer’s Dream

As I looked into the morning light
A childhood sweetheart came to mind
It conjured up a memory
Of one Summer’s dream

I remember...we’d play all through the day
We wouldn’t let anything get in our way

Two children with hearts
No one could ever part

You were the only one
We’d only just begun

And when we’d watch the setting Sun
We knew that soon I would be gone
Your eyes glowed with tenderness
Hiding the feelings you possessed

Do you remember that starlit night
We talked of what we dreamed, and held each other tight

Two children with hearts
Who wished upon a star

You were the only one
What had we begun

Remember... I remember
One Summer’s dream

Remember me...remember
One Summer’s dream

My eyes...they cleared...awake alas
Reminding me that Summer’s past
But, now and again I’d think of you.
Oh... What I wouldn’t do

Some things you don’t want to forget
Loving you - I’ll never regret

Two children with hearts
Who had grown apart

You are the only one
Where have you gone

One Summer’s dream...

Don’t Know

I don’t know - Don’t know

How come the Sun ain’t shinin’

I don’t know - Don’t know

Just where your heart’s been hidin’

I don’t know - Don’t know

Sometimes I feel I’m dyin’

I don’t know - Don’t know

How come the Sun ain’t shinin’

Ceiling’s been leakin’

Heart’s - a - bleedin’

Wall’s are crackin’

Where you be?

Love’s a heart attack

Can’t get you back

Hopeless feelin’

Cul-de-sac

Where’s the love

I used to-know

I don’t know

I don’t know

Where’s the love

Quid Pro Quo

I don’t know

I don’t know

I don’t know - Don’t know

How come the Sun ain’t shinin’

I don’t know - Don’t know

Just where your heart’s been hidin’

I don’t know - Don’t know

Sometimes I feel I’m dyin’

I don’t know - Don’t know

How come the Sun ain’t shinin’

We Were So Close

Once, when we were so close

It was so good loving you

Like a dream come true

A scene from a play – a piece by Monet

We were so close

Now that we're on our own

I sometimes wonder was I a fool

Not knowing what I'd lose

Was this a mistake

My heart fills with blame

We were so close

Oh, when we were close

There was no other who'd make me feel

The way you made me feel

Unlike I've felt before

So close – no one can change the way I feel

Without you now – is it too late

I don't know, but the pain still grows and grows

So here I am living in the past

Forever loving you

When we were so close

Once, when we were so close

It felt so right loving you

Like a dream come true

A scene from a dance – a piece by Chopin

A scene from a play – a piece by Monet

A dream come true – we'll never know

It's one dream that will never come true

Once – it might have been that once

We were so close

This was a set of lyrics I wrote to an instrumental by David Foster and Johnny Mandel from Foster's "The Symphony Sessions" (1988). I had originally written the lyrics in October of 1994, and later slightly revised them in 9/96 & 8/97, with a final touch-up in 12/2007. I "officially" submitted my copyright for them in January 2008. In 2009, Marco Spatuzzi wrote a beautiful piece to this set of lyrics. In addition, I intend to set this lyric to my own music.

Heart & Soul

Another day has ended – I’m alone

I’ve never felt so empty – or so cold

I miss you more than ever – close to me

You’re all I am – you are my everything.

My heart and soul

My strength and hope

My joy – my world

If only you were here to hold

You never meant to hurt me – now I know

Forgiving you came easy – just let it go

This time apart has made me realize

How much you mean to me – you’re my life

My heart and soul

My strength and hope

My joy – my world

If only you were here to hold

Your heart – and soul

Your smile – and warmth

Your eyes – your touch

I never loved someone so much

So take my hand

I’ll show you just how much I care

Awake – my world

You are the only one

My heart and soul

This set of lyrics I wrote to a song written by Paul Dubrovsky. It is a song about forgiveness.

It's a lovely tune. Music composed, performed, and arranged by Paul Dubrovsky.

Many thanks to Paul for this opportunity to work with him.  I hope to re-record and arrange this song under my production in the future.
