The ability to imagine and think about history as both joint and separate enterprises by men and women is a key part of what I must pass   on, not because I am a feminist, but because that is the way it happened. – Judith P. Zinnser

History 2A, World History to 1500, Summer 2017:

Welcome! I look forward to working with all of you soon.

The textbook you are required to have for the course:
Ways of the World: A Brief Global History with Sources, Volume 1 by Robert
Strayer. ISBN 978-319-01841-2
A digital version of the book is also available.
You will definitely want to have access to the book on the first day of class.
Because this is a summer session course, we will do the equivalent of a
semester of work (16 weeks) in one quarter of the time. So this will be
intense. You will be expected to spend 36 hours per week completing the work for
this course, so clear your schedule for these four weeks! In addition to the
required textbook above, you will also have additional reading, viewing and
activities online, as well as a number of weekly quizzes and written
assignments. You must have access to a reliable internet connection and a
reliable computer with basic word processing and audio/visual capabilities.

I will send out an email to the entire class the week before the course starts
with further instructions, so please make sure that you register with an email
address that you check frequently. You will be able to log into Canvas (our
online learning platform) the first day of class, June 19.
