The intent of this class is to provide the student with the ability to size, design and install a solar thermal system. Students will work in groups to size and design a solar thermal system for a designated site and present their projects to the class.
EXAMS & GRADES:
Grades are based on three Midterms, Quizzes and a Final exam (1/2) and your joint final project with presentation (1/2). Credit/no-credit rather than a letter grade, you must let me know by September 21, 2015.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
1. Compare and contrast solar thermal systems, both hot water and radiant floor heating, with conventional building energy sources and applications.
2. Critically assess solar thermal system applications, site evaluation, design analysis, codes and materials, and methods of installation.
3. Investigate solar thermal systems and their relationship with energy conservation, scarce resources and the environment.
