Descendants of Edward and Jane Jones Long
Edward Long was born about 1737 in Pennsylvania to Thomas and Martha Thatcher Long. He married Jane Jones on January 17, 1762 in Augusta County Virginia and about 1767 the family relocated to Loudoun County. In the year 1776 the family moved back to Pennyslvania where their son, Isaac was born. From 1777 to 1781 Edward served with Capt Chrystie's Co, 3rd PA Regt under Col. Craig. He was involved with the Pennsylvania Line mutiny. After the war the family relocated to Pittsylvania County where Edward died in 1806 and Jane in 1821.
Edward and Jane were the parents of twelve known children: Thomas Long who married Rachel Cox, Rachel Long who married John Gregg, William Long who married Rachel Pruett, James Long who married Priscilla Lasswell, Nancy Long who married William C Maples, Hannah Long who married Reuben Herndon, Moses Long who married Elizabeth, George Long who married Elizabeth Maples (William C Maples' sister), Isaac Long who married Nancy Bolton, Edward Long who married Mildred Bolton (Nancy Bolton's sister), Jane Long who married William Hammock, and Elizabeth Long who married William Herndon (brother of Reuben Herndon). George, Isaac and James were all Baptist ministers.
It isn't my intention here to list all the descendants of Edward and Jane. That information is available elsewhere on the internet including rootsweb Instead, I plan to make available here miscellaneous information regarding the research into these families. Although a small part of this research is my own, most of it is the product of work done by other researchers who have shared with me.
I welcome your comments, suggestions, or corrections.
