(Under construction - pardon the 'dust'. We will soon have links to Sign-Up Genius for volunteers. )

The PTO sponsors a variety of activities and events throughout the year. For each event we have a chair or co-chairs who organize the events, recruit additional volunteers, and oversee the event itself. Below is the list of events scheduled for this year. For each we've included a general description as well as information on what we need volunteers to do.

Muffin Wednesday, Ongoing

This service provides muffins, bagels, etc. every Wednesday morning for the teachers and staff.

The chair recruits two volunteers for every Wednesday who take in the donations (need to be delivered by 7:30 am) and set up.

Back To School Picnic, September 12

A bring-your-own picnic dinner held on the front lawn of the school. Activities include games provided by the Boy Scouts, music, and of course the playgrounds. Families share drinks, fruit, and snacks while the PTO makes sure there is plenty of dessert and utensils. This is also usually a chance to see the Logo items and pick up a Coupon book.

United Way Day of Caring, September 19

Volunteers through United Way donate their time to improve the grounds.

After School Clubs, October 6 (Fall)

This is a very popular activity here at Broadus Wood. Our teachers, parents and members of the community volunteer to design and lead a special program once a week after school. In the past programs have included special PE programs, a Lego Club, dancing, etc. This fall the club program begins October 6th and lasts for six weeks. A description of the clubs being offered and the sign-up sheet is available at the bottom of the page.

Skate Nights, October 10

Students bring their own skates and get to join their friends in the gym. Skate night lasts from x to x and costs $1. There is also a DJ, face painting, and a raffle. Skate nights will also be held Nov. 7, Dec. 6, Jan. 9, and April 17.

We still need volunteers to collect admission, help monitor the skating, DJ, do the raffle, and clean-up.

Fall Festival, October 23

This event has become more popular every year thanks to the efforts of our volunteers. This year there will again be a dinner in the cafeteria, games in the gym, and Trick-or-Trunk (TOT) in the parking lot. TOT is where parents decorate the back of their car and hand out goodies. There are even prizes for the best decorated trunk.

Volunteers are needed to decorate the cars and hand out treats, set-up the games in the gym, help distribute the meals, assist with the raffle, and clean-up. We also need volunteers to help find donations for the raffle.

Election Day Bake Sale, November 4

This is a very popular event with the Earlysville community. Broadus Wood Elementary School is a polling place on election day. Parents volunteer to bring their wonderful home baked goodies, which are then sold to voters. Few can resist as they have to pass the bake sale to exit! Volunteers are needed to provide the baked goods and staff the sale table on Election Day.

Book Fair - December 8 to 12

This year our partner will be Scholastic Books and the fair will take place in December. Students have a chance to see all the books available in the library and make a 'wish-list.' During the day and after school, parents and family have an opportunity to come in and buy the books. This year sales will also be available through the web.

We will need volunteers to help students with their wish-lists and to staff the sales tables, as well as with set-up and clean-up.

Talent Show, January 23, 2015

This is a chance for our students to show their talents on stage. There is a rehearsal session and one performance.

Volunteers are needed during the rehearsal and the performance to assist the students, with set-up, and clean-up.

Broadus Wood Dance, February 13

This is a 'formal' dance for parents and students.

Book Swap, TBD

Students bring used books to school. In return they receive coupons they use to trade for books on the day of the "swap."

Volunteers are needed during the week of the swap to sort books, monitor the swap, and assist the students.  We still need someone to chair this event!

Bobcat Bash, March 20

This is an evening event with bowling, bingo, and basketball. Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up, food, music, activities, and clean-up.

Inquiry Fair, March 26

This is where our students display the science projects they have created at home.

Staff Appreciation Week, May 4 - 8

This is our chance to show our staff how much we appreciate their hard work throughout the year. The PTO provides a luncheon on the last day of school. Each teacher is also given a gift basket.

Volunteers are needed to help assemble the gift basket and with the luncheon.

This is a great tradition at Broadus Wood, with the yearbooks offered for sale at the end of the year.

We need volunteer photographers to take photos during the school day and at special events. We also need volunteers to help design and lay out the book, and to sell ads to local businesses.
