What you will see

An overview of the main features of Schoology from a parent perspective.

When you first login to Schoology you will see a screen that looks a bit like this.

This is your view as the parent:

1... Recent Activity will show any updates posted to any courses or groups you are a member of.It is unlikely that you are enrolled in any courses or groups but you will see any posts sent to the whole school under “Burnside High School”.

2... If you need to return to this view click the Burnside High School Logo in the top left.

3... Access to the Daily School Notices and the Whole School Google Calendar can be accessed from the right hand side under “upcoming”.

To see Schoology from the viewpoint of one of your children:

1... Click on the down arrow next to your name in the top right of the screen.

2... Click on the name of your child (you may have more than one to choose from)

3... You will now see a banner at the top of the page saying “You are viewing as …….”

You can now view:

• • • • • the Courses (classes) that your child is a member of and

        • the Groups (year group, extra-curricular, careers) that your child is a member of

(Please note that not all extra-curricular groups will currently be using Schoology)

A parent has “view only” rights to materials and posts in your child’s Courses and Groups. You will be able to see if they have any upcoming assignments or look in their calendar to see if there are any events placed there.

You will be able to see some documents related to the courses and information about assignments set. However, some Google documents will only be able to be viewed by students and staff at Burnside High School.

Please do not “Request access” to these documents via google, instead ask your child to show you on their device.
