Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarships are open to current high school seniors throughout the academic school year.  We encourage every senior student and parent to visit our scholarship page weekly for available scholarships and deadlines.  Many scholarships applications can also be submitted online and links to those can be found in the scholarship description.  When applying for scholarships please provide your counselors with a resume of activities/honors/awards that you have earned during high school, as this will allow them to assist you even further in the scholarship matching process. Please note any scholarships below that are by school nomination (i.e. UNC Morehead-Cain Scholarship, NC State Parks Scholarship) and direct those inquires to the appropriate contact person listed below.  


We want to help guide you in finding money to finance your education after graduation.  Please contact your designated counselor at any time with questions. 



Burke County Counselors Association Scholarship

A scholarship sponsored by the Burke County Counselors Association total $300 that will be applied to books or personal school supplies.  Eligible to current high school seniors, who plan to major in the field of education and/or counseling.  Applications are available from your school counselor. 

Deadline: Completed Applications and Transcripts are due to your counselor on or before 3pm on April 28th 2017. 


NCLEOA Scholarship

Scholarship opportunity open to current high school seniors who are planning to major in the field of criminal justice.  Eligible seniors must be a resident of North Carolina and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, be active in the community, church and/or school activities.  Applications are available in the counseling office. Please see your school counselor to pick one up.  

Deadline: All applications, essay and official transcript must be mailed and received at the address listed on the application by June 1st, 2017.


Tailor Made Lawn Scholarship

Tailor Made Lawn is locally-owned and heavily involved in the local community. They recently announced their scholarship fund to benefit high school & college students pursuing a degree in the environmental science fields. It is a $1,000 scholarship for the 2017 fall semester. 2017 Student View Scholarship Program

The 2017 Student View Scholarship Program is offering $11,000 worth of scholarships to current high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school.  The program includes: One $4,000 scholarship, 2 $1,000 scholarships and Ten $500 scholarships.  Interested seniors must log on to Student View Scholarship Site and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in are area.  

Deadline: April 22nd, 2017



North Carolina Society of Accountants Scholarship 

Scholarship offered by the NC Society of Accountants Scholarship Foundation to current high school seniors who are a resident of North Carolina, plan to enroll in a college or university after graduation and plan to major in the field of accounting.  Applications can be obtained from your counselor. 

Deadline: April 15th, 2017


CTE Scholarship: Children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen:

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation’s scholarships are for children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen pursuing a post-secondary education at any accredited school—whether that be a career training, trade school, community college, or four-year university. They are a financial need scholarship and award scholarships to every eligible applicant. Since 1962, the Scholarship Foundation has provided more than 37,000 need-based scholarships, valued at nearly $100,000,000.


The scholarship application is open year-round for students pursuing career and technical education programs less than 12 months in length. Students can apply at www.mcsf.org/cte.  For programs longer than 12 months, our application is open from January 1 to March 1 each year. This hyperlink has materials to help promote the scholarship that can be distributed electronically. Table Rock Detachment Marine Corps League Scholarship 

Scholarship Opportunity open to current deserving high school seniors, who have demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, outstanding student character and who have a commitment to service. Additionally, seniors must be have had a family member (parent, step-parent, sibling, grandparent or aunt and/or uncle) who are currently serving or have been honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps.  Applications are available from your school counselor. 

Deadline: All applications must be mailed and postmarked on or before April 3rd, 2017


The North Carolina Community Foundation

Scholarship opportunities through the NCCF are rich and diverse. We do not have a general scholarship fund; rather, all scholarship awards are made by specific funds with criteria established by their particular donors. The NCCF is privileged to award hundreds of scholarships each year, thanks to many generous donors across our state.Before applying for any NCCF scholarship, be certain you know how to apply. Click here to access our scholarships page for more info. Information about scholarships available for the 2017-18 school year will be available in February. 


Aspiring Nurse Scholarship

Nursing Schools Almanac is offering a $1,000 scholarship open to current high school seniors who plan to major in the field of nursing upon high school graduation, and who have a track record of academic excellence especially in the areas of science and math and a passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare.  Seniors interested in applying for this scholarship need to visit Nursing Schools Almanac Scholarship   and click on the banner on the right-hand side of the website's homepage.  You will find all the information you need to know and the online application for this scholarship.  Please note that all applications and materials MUST be submitted online.  

Application Deadline: June 30th 2017 until midnight. 


New Covenant Church Of God

New Covenant Church of God is announcing its one time non-renewable scholarship in the amount of $500 to one area high school senior. The New Covenant Church of God Scholarship will be awarded in the spring, the winner will be notified by May 31st. Criteria are merit and financial need and funds must be used at a community college or 4 year university/college. See your counselor for more information. Application deadline is March 31st. 



State Employees Credit Union People Helping People Scholarship

This scholarship is open to current High School seniors who have a 2.5 or higher GPA, demonstrates leadership, excellent character, integrity and community involvement.  This scholarship is valued at a total of $10,000. Students MUST be accepted and planning to attend one of the 16 public universities in North Carolina Only.  EBHS may nominate one member of the senior class to be considered for this scholarship.  If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, you MUST sign up on Ms. Peck's office door.

Carolina Healthcare System Blue Ridge Volunteers Scholarship

10 total $1,000 scholarships will be available to current high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in the medical/healthcare field.  Seniors planning to apply for this scholarship must demonstrate financial need, have good character and professional promise.  All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online.  To access the application please visit Carolinas Healthcare Scholarship

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship is for high school seniors planning to attend a 4 year college/university in the fall. Must be a US Citizen, have a 3.0 GPA, be involved in community service and demonstrate financial need. See Mrs. Thompson in the counseling office for more information. Scholarship packet must be mailed/postmarked by March 31st. 


SEANC Scholarship

Scholarship sponsored by the State Employees Association of North Carolina Scholarship Foundation open to current high school seniors whose parents are members of SEANC (senior students whose parents are members of other state organizations other than SEANC unfortunately do not qualify for this scholarship) and who plan to attend a 4-year college or university directly upon high school graduation and/or a 2 year community college or technical school.  Applications are available online at the following link: SEANC Scholarship Application.   All Applications and supporting materials must be mailed and postmarked No later than April 15th, 2017. Incomplete Applications and/or applications postmarked or received after April 15th will automatically be eliminated from consideration.                              



Suntrust Bank Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes

Scholarship Opportunity open to current high school seniors and sponsored by SunTrust Banks.   2 $500 scholarships will be chosen during each drawing period beginning on October 28th and running until May 12th, 2017.  Seniors may enter once during each drawing period.  To enter please visit  http://suntrusteducation.com/scholarshipsweepstakes. 



The Community Foundation of Burke County

Visit www.cfburkecounty.org for local scholarship opportunities. Their scholarship program offers financial assistance to individuals pursuing education through various scholarship funds. These funds have been established by generous donors, including individuals, families, organizations, and corporations from our community.

Scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500 are available for qualified students. Recipients are selected on a competitive basis, considering academic and non-academic factors and demonstrated financial need. Many of the funds target students from specific areas of interest to the donor, including successful performance in high school, high school attended, and academic or career focus. Note application deadlines for each scholarship. The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina

Scholarships are open to high school seniors living in western North Carolina. Visit the website at www.cfwnc.org to review the scholarship list and eligibility requirements. Note application deadlines and apply via their website. Applications for the following scholarships will be available at the website listed starting November 1st, 2016.

Kenneth N. Houston Memorial Scholarship

The Catawba Valley Chapter of Professional Construction Estimators of America (PCEA) again this coming spring will award scholarship money to deserving high school seniors and college undergraduates preparing to enter construction related careers. Completed applications should be mailed to the address on the home page of this website to be received no later than March 31st.  The scholarship committee will announce recipients by the end of May. If you have questions or would like to obtain information about PCEA’s National Scholarship, contact Lynn Nash at (828) 324-1564. Click below to download a printable version of the application, please click on the link below.  You may also see your counselor to pick up this scholarship application. 

Kenneth N. Houston Memorial Scholarship Application


 NC Division of Veteran Affairs Scholarships

Scholarships in appreciation for the service and sacrifices of North Carolina’s war veterans, a four-year scholarship program at approved schools in North Carolina has been established for the qualifying natural or adopted (before age 15) children of certain class categories of deceased, disabled, combat or POW/MIA veterans. West Scholars- Catawba College

Scholarship open to current high school seniors who are planning to attend Catawba College in Salisbury, NC and major in the field of education.  Qualifying candidates would have high academic achievement, demonstrate leadership, be involved in their community and also be committed to teaching.  Interested seniors MUST submit an application for admission to Catawba College prior to applying for this scholarship.  To apply for the scholarship or to find out more information about the West Scholars Program, please visit Catawba College West Scholars Program

UNC- CH Hmong Student Association Scholarship

The Hmong Student Association at Carolina made a scholarship this year. The scholarship is worth $500 and is aiming for Hmong students. More information is provided in the link below.

Tall People Scholarships

Award Amount $1000

It’s only fair that if there are short people scholarships, there should also be tall people scholarships. If your height is at least 5’10” for women or 6’2” for men, are under 21, and attending college for the first time in the fall, you may qualify for a scholarship through Tall Clubs International. High School Scholarship

Applicant Eligibility Requirements

Award Amount 10 $2000 scholarships for high school seniors and 5 $1000 “second chance” scholarships for those pursuing college or trade school. For this easy scholarship offered by the American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship Program, read their Fire Sprinklers essay and correctly answer 10 multiple choice questions. You can then enter to win the contest. Must be a US citizen or legal resident. High school seniors must enroll in college in the fall to qualify.
