Audio

Though it may seem hard to believe, when we are creating multimedia projects (podcasts, slideshows, videos, etc...) the quality of the sounds we create and use is likely to be much more important than any images we include. Our audience will forgive us for poor quality images; however, they will not tolerate poor audio. Sound is more important than we realize. As such, we need to make sure any audio we use (soundtracks, sound effects, ambient background/atmospheric audio, voiceovers, etc...) is of the highest quality. Helpful resources and strategies for effectively creating and using audio include but are not limited to those listed below.

  • Have a bothersome constant background noise (a buzz, hiss, or hum) that needs to be extricated from an audio track? Consider using the noise removal feature in Audacity. Although it won't remove talking or music in background audio, this method will be useful all the same. A few sources of information about this method of noise removal include:
    • Technology coach and blogger Scott Nesbitt's article How To Clean Up Digital Recordings Using Audacity.
    • YouTube author SandSeven7's Free Video + Audio Editing Program + Tutorial Windows Movie Maker + Audacity Noise Removal is well worth watching.
