Silencer 1.5.0 has been released.

posted Jan 6, 2010, 4:09 AM by Bruno Albuquerque

Silencer 1.5.0 has been released. This is the biggest release since 1.0 and, among other things, it enables the service to get orientation sensor notifications even when in standby mode (probably the first application to do that after a change in Android that introduced this problem. More info here). Full changelog:
  • Full Service rewrite.
  • Enable support for getting sensor notifications even when in standby mode.
  • New sensor detection code.
  • Small design improvements in configuration app.
As running in standby mode will use more battery, this option can be enabled or disabled in the configuration app. Tests indicate that the battery usage in standby corresponds to about 9% of the total usage, which is not that much (it uses half of the battery used cell standby, for instance).

Silencer on European HTC Hero.

posted Jan 5, 2010, 5:35 AM by Bruno Albuquerque

Silencer is not working reliably on the European HTC Hero device (because of its "chin"). This is a know issue and a fix is undergoing some testing right now.. A new version should be uploaded to the Android Market later today that will include this fix.

Thanks for your patience.

Silencer 1.1.1 released.

Silencer 1.1.1 has been released. This is a minor bugfix release. Changelog:
  • Fixed "Vibrate instead of silencing" checkbox state. it was not being correctly retrieved at startup and so would show a bogus state (it would appear to not have been changed if you did not use the Home key to leave the application).

Silencer 1.1.0 released.

posted Jan 3, 2010, 6:57 AM by Bruno Albuquerque

Silencer 1.1.0 has been released. This is the first  non-bugfix release and introduces both a new configuration interface and also the most requested feature by users: change the phone to vibration instead of silencing it when it is face down (can be set in the preferences panel). Full changelog:
  • New cleaner configuration interface.
  • Added option to vibrate the phone instead of silencing it.
  • More code cleanup and some small bugfixes.

Silencer 1.0.3 released.

posted Jan 3, 2010, 5:20 AM by Bruno Albuquerque

This Silencer release lays the ground work for upcoming support to vibration instead of silencing. This in an interesting advancement as when the phone vibrates it interferes with the readings from the orientation sensor and this release added a filter for this case that works in 99% of the cases in my Motorola Milestone phone. here is the changelog:
  • Added code to filter out phone vibration.
  • As always, some more code clean-up.
