Jessica '09

Hello!! My name is Jessica and I graduated from Bucknell in 2009. I double majored in Creative Writing and Women and Gender Studies, and like many Bucknellians, was really active on campus.  I was very involved with V-Day Bucknell, which puts on a production of The Vagina Monologues each February, and senior year I was one of the leaders of the group.  FLAG & BT was also one of the clubs that I participated in during my four years at Bucknell and at different times I was president, secretary and treasurer.  I also worked in the Office of LGBT Awareness, which was a pretty cool place to work, and was a part of the Bucknell Brigade, Intergroup Dialogue (AKA The Elephant in the Room), and Sirens, a feminist group.  My junior year I went abroad to Spain in the fall and then to England in the Spring, which was an awesome experience.  (If anyone wants info on the lgbt community in Granada or Bath, let me know!)

My other interests include a love of writing: I write poetry, and keep a journal. I also like horseback riding, swimming in my river at home, kayaking, birdwatching. Interesting fact about me: my family and I own three llamas...

I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, which is a pretty rural place, and there was a lot of homophobia in my highschool. I came out to myself when I was 16, and senior year of high-school was pretty lonely because I was closeted in school. (Luckily I have a very supportive family.) It was so great to come to Bucknell and find a community of LGBT people and allies.  FLAG & BT was very important to me because I know what it is like to feel alone.

Since graduating I have started a phd program in Women's Studies at the University of MD.  I also blog at The Bucknell Afterword ( and The Spaces In Between (  I try to come back to Bucknell as much as I can, and participate in GALABI events.  Perhaps I'll see you there!"
