Recommended Reading Guidelines

Free reading pleasure is a crucial piece in a child's development and I encourage each child to find a book that he/she enjoys, rather than only reading the books required in other classes.

K-2 students I recommend reading at least 15 min/day.

Kindergarten students should recognize terms such as author, illustrator, and title characters..

1st & 2nd grade students should recognize terms such as author, illustrator, title characters, fiction versus nonfiction, call numbers, illustrations & folk tales.

3rd-8th grade students I recommend reading one book a week, or at least 30 min/day, especially during the summer and when there is less homework.

Daily reading is a good habit for all children and adults to develop!
