Bukovinian State Medical University holds a distinguished position on European level. Nowadays it is recognized as a member of the International Association of Educational Universities (IAEU), of the World Health Organization (WHO), of Association of Carpathian Region Universities (ACRU) and of the Magna Charta Universitatum.
             The Department of International Relations is in charge of the international activity of BSMU. It was founded on the 29th of October 2003 by the order of the Rector on basis of the corresponding directive documents of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. Today the work of the Department of International Relations is organized by the Vice-Rector on Science Work and International Relations, Professor Oleksandr Ivashchuk. The activity of the department is aimed at the development, expansion and consolidation of international contacts and of the university authority in the world community.

             The purpose of activity of the Department of International Relations is integration of BSMU into the international academic society and into the world scientific process.

             The main tasks and aims of the Department of International Relations are the following:

              organization of cooperation with educational institutions, scientific and public organizations, agencies, funds of                     other countries, and also their representative offices in Ukraine; 
              maintenance of relations with foreign partners in the field of joint researches, exchange of teaching staff and        
              students; 
              provision with information, consultative assistance for departments, teachers, and students of the university      
              concerning the opportunities of carrying out joint researches, studies and trainings abroad;
              joining world organizations, finding prospective international programs and projects;
             collaboration with the active international funds and programs (TEMPUS, DAAD, Fulbright, Lions Club 
             etc.);
             preparation and organization of reception of foreign citizens, delegations, representatives of embassies and      
             international organizations, interested in collaboration with BSMU;
             signing of agreements about cooperation with foreign partners of higher educational foundations; 
             recruiting foreign citizens for studying at the university; 
             spreading of the information about Bukovinian State Medical University, negotiation with foreign partners; 
             development and edition of prospectuses, booklets, and CDs about BSMU in the English language; 
             generalization and analysis of the reports about the international activity of the university’s departments;
             drawing up of annual report about international activity and elaboration of suggestions about its improvement.

         Every year students, young doctors and scientists of the university take part in the international medical conferences, congresses, symposiums and forums in the cities of Poland, USA, Russia, Germany, Austria, Sweden etc.
 
        By tradition the Department of International Relations announces for the students of 4-5 courses a competition for summer practice in the prime clinics of Austria.
 
        The number of foreign students from India, Somalia, Nigeria, Ghana, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Bulgaria, USA etc. who study at Bukovinian State Medical University is increasing from year to year.
 
        At the moment the Department of International Relations actively continues its work in the sphere of entering into cooperation, information and experience exchange with the world leading universities, facilitating the integration of the Ukrainian medical science in the European and American world space.
