Department of International Trade
BSME has established a strong working relationship with the Department of International Trade (DIT, formerly UKTI). This is in keeping with key BSME priorities, namely, establishing and strengthening partnerships with relevant educational organisations as well as representing the interests of BSME member schools by engaging with relevant government organisations.
Emilia Mateva, the DIT representative in Bahrain, has extended her support, and that of her department, generously. Not only will she be hosting a CPD session for our Associate Members at the Annual Conference from 6 – 9 March 2017 to outline the services available to UK business interests in the region, she will also be passing on the details of local contacts in each of the countries represented within BSME membership. This will enable a more joined up approach as we lobby for our members but also identify designated contacts for schools in each country.
DIT has already hosted two education-focused trade missions in Bahrain this term. In November, students were invited to explore their future with 25 of the world's leading educational institutions.
More recently, Lisa Kirkley and Olivia Roth attended a UK Education and Training Trade Mission Event in Manama. This event offered a series of short CPD sessions and networking opportunities with Further and higher education institutions.
More on how BSME will be developing collaboration with universities at the Business Development Conference on 3 February at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai. Our Chairman, Ed Goodwin OBE, has recognised the need for stronger support for member schools around university-related issues.
