The Berkeley Student Cooperative (BSC) is an 85 year-old student-governed and operated, non-profit affordable housing cooperative near the University of California at Berkeley.  Our mission is to provide quality, low-cost, cooperative housing to students who otherwise might not be able to afford a university education.  The BSC houses 1260 students in 17 room-and-board houses and 3 apartment complexes (ranging in size from 17 to 259 students).  We provide numerous leadership opportunities to students, who perform the majority of the day-to-day functions, working alongside a professional staff of 25, to operate the organization.  To learn more about the BSC please visit our website at  



The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager is responsible for the successful and efficient day-to-day operations and financial management of Cloyne Court, a cooperatively-run student housing facility offering room and board to 140 UC Berkeley students.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to, checking residents in & out of the house; responding to and resolving residents’ requests and complaints; maintaining financial records; ensuring that maintenance, safety, and habitability standards are maintained; enforcing contract provisions and house rules; supporting the development of educational and social programming; working with the house council with regard to house governance issues, and also working closely with the BSC central level administration to ensure compliance with BSC policies.  The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager trains, supports, and supervises a variety of student house-level managers carrying out various specialized functions (e.g. Academic Theme, Community, Food, House, Kitchen, Maintenance, Social, Workshift Managers, etc.).  The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager must carry an emergency cell phone and be on-call for emergencies; some evening and weekend work is also required.      

The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager also acts as a resource for information, assistance, and advice for other BSC house-level managers, Board-level committees, and completes other duties and projects, as assigned by the Cooperative Experience Manager.



Applicants must have a four-year college degree and at least one year of residential management experience.  Previous supervisory experience managing multiple staff (and preferably student employees) is required.  Applicants must be familiar with and have the ability to appropriately respond to the many and complex issues faced by college students (e.g. mental health, substance use/abuse, consent and sexual harassment/assault, and other health and wellness issues).  They should also be familiar with and have the ability to support and provide resources to students with a wide range of disabilities.  Knowledge of student housing best practices, student leadership development, cooperatives, the cooperative movement, and/or the BSC are preferred.

The successful candidate will have excellent management/supervisory skills, strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; conflict resolution skills, the ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; excellent attention to detail; the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced residential/office environment; excellent problem-solving/trouble-shooting skills; the ability to analyze problems, gather and evaluate data and develop recommendations for improvement; intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs; and the desire and ability to work with a diverse array of employees and students.



This is a full-time, exempt position that requires the manager to live on-site in a private apartment at Cloyne Court.  Compensation includes an annual starting salary of $45,760 in addition to free room and board.  The BSC also offers a generous benefits package, which currently provides for annual cost-of-living adjustments, annual performance-based raises and bonuses, paid health and dental insurance for employee and dependents, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, long-term disability and life insurance, and paid retirement benefits (after two years).  We are seeking a candidate that can begin prior to the beginning of the Fall semester.  A two-year commitment is preferred.
