ASSISTANT HOUSING SUPERVISOR

 

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:

The Berkeley Student Cooperative (BSC) is a student-governed and operated nonprofit housing cooperative near the University of California at Berkeley.  The BSC houses 1280 students in 17 room-and-board houses and 3 apartment complexes. 

 

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Assistant Housing Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Housing Supervisor in the following duties:  Processing applications; maintenance of waiting lists and current membership files; housing assignments; preparing and processing contracts; processing requests for transfers, cancellations, and deposit refunds; issuing contracts; correspondence; taking rent payments; answering information requests and assisting members with questions; supervision and training of part-time student assistants; and data entry.  This position involves extensive public contact and telephone work. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A minimum of one year general office experience and two years of college is required.  Qualified candidates must have one year of advanced level Microsoft Office, Excel, and database management experience as well as customer service experience.  Some supervisory experience is preferred.  Candidates must be able to type at least 50 wpm.  Applicants must be detail-oriented, possess excellent organizational skills, and be able to work both independently and part of a team.  The ideal candidate will display the ability to effectively organize work assignments, establish priorities, develop recommendations and solutions, and ensure completion of multiple projects by agreed upon timelines.  Strong interpersonal, customer service, and oral/written communication skills as well as the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff are required for this position.     

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Work is performed in a normal office environment and requires the ability to operate a computer keyboard, 10-key calculator, and engage in repetitive motions.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This is a full time position with an hourly starting wage of $20.02.  Benefits and other conditions of employment are pursuant to an Employee Association contract, which currently provides for annual cost-of-living adjustments, performance-based raises and/or bonuses, paid health and dental insurance for employee and dependents, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, and paid retirement benefits (after two years).
