Sea Base Florida
Summer 2026
PLEASE GO HERE to let us know if you're interested in going on an adventure at Sea Base Florida in Summer 2026
Want to experience everything the Florida Keys have to offer? You will sail, paddleboard, ocean kayak, boat, fish, snorkel coral reefs, learn about marine ecosystems, and more. Every day is a new adventure!
Sea Base is a BSA high adventure base (like Philmont). At Sea Base you go on a sailboat out off the coast of Florida and do things like snorkeling and scuba diving in the coral reefs in the Florida Keys! The trip we go on will most likely be a 7 day trip where we take a boat out and do a lot of snorkeling and fishing in the coral reefs. The ship would be our home for part of the week, then we would stay at Sea Base headquarters (on Islamorada) and do day trips the rest of the week. Here's the description from Sea Base:
Location: Islamorada, FL • Crew Size: 6-8
Setting sail from Islamorada, crews will embark on three days of live-aboard adventure at sea. Upon returning to base, they will be housed in our eco tents with bunk beds and air conditioning. The remainder of the adventure will include days of snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding and a visit to historic Florida Keys sights.
Check out the PHOTO ALBUM and check out THIS VIDEO from Troop 98's trip to Sea Base in Summer 2022. Troop 98 has been to all three Sea Bases: Florida, the Bahamas, and St. Thomas! Thanks, Danny Knoll, for the awesome video!
Some details:
This trip will take place from June 26 to July 1, 2026.
The base for this adventure is in Islamorada, Florida (in the Florida Keys) so we will have to fly there, most likely to Miami, then we would take vans or a bus to the Florida Keys.
Each boat takes 6 Scouts and 2 Adults. There's also an option for a really big boat that takes 20 people (so figure, 16 Scouts and 4 Adults), but that's not our first choice.
You can see information on all the Sea Base adventures HERE (we're trying to reserve space for "Keys Adventure Sailing").
There are a few requirements you must meet in order to go.
You MUST be 13 years old by the time you attend, First Class Rank and completed 8th grade. If we don't fill our crews we may offer spaces to 7th graders who are 13. If that's you, go ahead and respond and well "waitlist" you if that happens.
You have to be a strong swimmer (you should be able to pass the BSA swim test pretty easily)
You must meet BSA height and weight guidelines (see the chart below)
You'll need to complete an updated medical record (which includes a doctors exam and signoff)
Adults will have to be registered with the BSA, which includes a background check and completion of BSA Youth Protection Training.
At least two members of each crew (youth or adult) will have to complete Wilderness First Aid certification training (and advanced first aid course that takes about 20 hours/2 days of instruction).
This trip cost is estimated to be $2000 per person:
The Adventure costs $1350 dollars per person
We think the plane ticket will be about $400 round trip per person
The transportation from the airport and back is about $100 per person
Miscellaneous items: custom T-shirt, sunscreen, activities on the way and back, meals traveling - $100 per person
PLEASE GO HERE to let us know if you're interested in Sea Base Florida 2026. We especially need adults to sign up: a minimum of two per crew (boat). We're going to have to lock in a reservation by the end of January. We will give preference to Scouts who are bringing along an adult/parent. :-)
If we get lottery slot we will have an informational meeting at an upcoming Troop Meeting.
