Come back to Green Lane for the SPOOKY CAMPOUT!
Depart from St. John's on Friday 11 October at 5:30PM
Return to St. John's on Sunday 13 October at Noon
You can come part-time; let us know on the sign-up form
We're going to Green Lane Park (MAP) for a fun-filled weekend of Scouting activities. We plan to do all of the following (as long as enough Scouts are interested, we have enough leaders to manage safety, and we have enough gear for the activity):
Fishing • see a list of fish species on the map of the lake at the bottom of this page
Cycling on the Perkiomen Trail (we may do both a short and a long ride, depending on who signs up and adult oversight)
Orienteering on the park's permanent course • PRIZES for the Scouts with the best times
You can also complete requirement 4a for First Class rank
Canoeing or Kayaking on Deep Creek Lake • if we have enough boats and PFDs and can do this safely
Working on rank advancement in camp, plus earning the Totin' Chip and/or Firem'n Chit awards. We may be able to allow a small number of Scouts to work on meal preparation if they need this for rank (let us know on the sign up form)
PLUS: In the evening we are going to help staff the HAUNTED HAYRIDES taking place at the park (see THIS FLYER). We'll get to staff the PIRATE SHIP which was built by Ian Whitaker as his Eagle Project (photos) and other scenes, like the Scooby Doo van, the Mad Scientist laboratory, the Madhouse Prison, and more! Once you sign up we may ask you to bring things to help you be "in costume". The hayrides take place on Saturday from 530 to 930PM. Check out these photos from last year's hay ride scenes and these from the campout.
What you should bring:
Regular gear for a two-night campout (consult your Scout Handbook if you're not sure, or ask your Patrol Leader, or see this page [regular packing list], or Cold Weather Packing list 1 and cold weather packing list 2.)
Check the weather forecast for Green Lane, PA, before you pack and leave
Bring your Scout uniform shirt for a photo opportunity
Parents are welcome to join us, but:
You must have completed and submitted Background Clearances to spend any time with Troop 98 (instructions here), and
You must be registered with the BSA in order to be able to stay overnight (instructions here). This is a new requirement. Please consider registering in order to help us carry out our campouts. You get to see Scouts in action, we tend to eat very well, and it's fun!
Hope to see you at Green Lane!
