Hello! My name is Grace Talley and I am currently a senior at William Monroe High School. In my free time, I enjoy reading, swimming, playing piano, and baking. After high school, I hope to attend a four year college, my top two favorites being James Madison University and Virginia Tech.
My research question is "What are the best ways to prepare students to develop a lifelong strategy for their financial future?" I believe that my findings will be very applicable not only to my life, but to many of my peer's lives as we get ready to go off to college, and determine how we are going to afford that higher level of education. I hope that my research will help others form a financial plan now, which will in turn help them plan for their future.
For my internship, I worked with Steven Engel, a Private Wealth Advisor for Ameriprise Financial. During this internship, I sat in on some of his client meetings and learned more about how he helps families and individuals manage their money.
For my community service, I coordinated a presentation/assembly at my school to teach students about how they can manage their money both now and in the future. I contacted various people in the field of financial planning, and I had Cassandra Riggin, Financial Education and Community Relations Specialist at UVA Community Credit Union, come share her Smart Start to College program.
As an additional part to my community service, I worked with David Winder at Habitat for Humanity to complete a finance project for their local Habitat Store. Working with a large organization allowed me to experience another aspect of the field of finance.
