In an effort to continue to create a more positive and supportive school culture at Brown Deer Elementary School, all staff and students work to implement a universal behavior program, called the "Brown Deer Way". This program is a systems approach to preventing and responding to discipline problems. Improving the character of our students, reducing behavioral problems, establishing a positive school culture, creating and maintaining a safe learning environment for all students and staff, and improving the academic performance are the goals of the Brown Deer Way!
Throughout the school year, all staff members hand out Freddie Feathers to students who are promoting safe, responsible, respectful, and honest behavior. Each week, a random drawing will take place at each grade level; winners of the drawing will earn a prize from the Brown Deer Way team. As part of the Brown Deer Way, Brown Deer Elementary has also adopted the Subs for Subs Program. The Subs for Subs Program allows substitute teachers to hand out different colored Freddie Feathers to students who are demonstrating safe, responsible, respectful, and honest behavior. All Freddie Feathers given out by substitute teachers are placed in a separate bin. Once a month, Principal Smith will draw a Freddie Feather from the substitute teacher bin. The student’s name that is selected will then receive a sub for lunch from Jimmy John’s. Please note that the student will also receive a milk of his/her choice as well. Lastly, in an effort to enhance school community the Brown Deer Way will be celebrating students and staff throughout the year through celebration assemblies and school-wide incentives.
