Instructor: Prof. Dietrich Neumann
Course: HIAA 0850: Modern Architecture

Description: The "classic" period of European and American modern architecture from the turn of the century to the 1950s. Presents both the established canon of masterpieces by Frank Lloyd Wright, Mies van der Rohe, and LeCorbusier, and counterbalances this approach with information about new building materials, changing conditions of architectural production, and the "mechanisms of fame."

What students said about the course:
"Professor Neumann created fantastic powerpoint presentations, integrating video clips, images, and panorama photographs that he has taken in many of the buildings we studied. He also encouraged students to build models as final projects, either physical models or computer models. I can't imagine getting anywhere near so clear and exciting a picture of modern architecture without Professor Neumann's presentations. All slideshows were available on MyCourses."
