Designing an Interactive Table

When designing your homepage, you can make a table with linked icons for a visually appealing and interactive page.


Before you create your table, it may be useful to compile a folder of the icons you will use.

  • Perform a Google Images search specifically for images that are icon-sized.
  • Select the image.
  • Right-click the image to save it to your computer.

When you finish selecting your icons, navigate to Canvas.

  • Select a course from the drop down menu.
  • Select Files from the left-hand sidebar.
  • Create a folder to store your icons.
  • Upload your icons to the folder.
  • Navigate to your course’s home page.
  • Select Change Home Page Layout.
  • Choose a page I’ll design myself.
  • Scroll down and click the Edit This Page button to edit or create a page using the Rich Content Editor tool.
  • Click the table icon in the menu bar.
  • Select your desired number of columns and rows.
  • Choose how you want the table to be aligned on the page.
  • Select the icon and external link menu item.
  • Select the Images tab and select images to insert them into different cells in the table.
  • Add text to describe the icons.

  • Select the Links tab.
  • Highlight the icon and text in a cell.
  • Select an option under Links.

Link icons and text to a website.

  • Highlight the icon and text in a cell.
  • Click the link icon.
  • Paste an external URL in the popup box.
