The Canvas User Group meets monthly to provide an opportunity for Brown faculty to share best practices, communicate issues, and learn what's new in Canvas based on recent releases.

1.) Invitation: use Canvas again for next semester. Submit your course information to create a new Canvas course site: brown.edu/go/canvasrequest

2.) The Spring Canvas training schedule is now available at brown.edu/go/canvastraining. Learn about additional tools and functions and course design strategies -- sessions offered through May. Can't find a time that works? Contact us at itg@brown.edu for a 1-1 consultation.


3.) Self-help online! Videos and help documentation online. Learn more about building pages, creating assignments, posting discussions, and more.

Did you hear about auto-linking of URLs and YouTube videos in the text editor?
Now any URL entered into the rich text editor in Canvas will be live. No more clicking on the “chain” menu icon to embed your YouTube videos. Easily link to news sources by copying and pasting URLs.

To all faculty using Canvas:

Thank you for being a part of the first wave of Canvas users at Brown! We appreciate your input and feedback during the past two semesters. As Spring 2012 winds down, don't forget to request your Canvas course for next semester! We are currently accepting Summer 2012 and Fall 2012 courses.

What’s happening?

Our campus user group met in March to learn about the latest Canvas product release notes and project updates, as well as discuss Canvas with fellow faculty users. A representative from Instructure (the company behind Canvas) phoned in to answer questions related to the product and listen to faculty feedback.

Notable Product Releases
- Better media recordings in Speed Grader tool
- Additional Designer Role for course designers.

- New scheduling tool
- Clearer student analytics

Project Updates

3.) Share your experience using Canvas with other faculty at our April 13th Canvas User Group. Your feedback will be collected and shared with the engineers at Instructure to improve your teaching experience.

Tips & Tricks
Did you know you could print your Canvas Syllabus using the browser?
Your browser will remove the navigation bars to produce a print-friendly version of your Canvas Syllabus. Print any page within Canvas using your browser.

Welcome to mid-semester! 

As a part of the transition to Canvas, we've formed a Brown Canvas User Group that will meet once a month. The user group provides an opportunity for Brown faculty to share best practices, communicate issues, and learn what's new in Canvas based on recent releases.
