We have posted our building lock/unlock schedule and a lot more security-related material.
Wifi service in Metcalf Lab (other than Friedman Auditorium) used to be non-standard, causing certain devices to fail to connect to Brown wifi in the building. It was only enabled on 5GHz frequencies to protect the airwaves for sensitive equipment in one of our labs. That lab has now updated their equipment.
Today we have re-enabled the more common 2.4GHz wifi frequencies in the building as well. This means that your iPhone, Kindle Fire, and other devices that only work on 2.4GHz frequencies should now connect to wifi anywhere in Metcalf. If you need help configuring your device to work on Brown wifi, there is an easy wizard you can use on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android at <http://cloudpath.brown.edu>. This will connect you to the secure and high-performance Brown-Secure service, which is far preferable to the limited Brown_EZ service.
For more information on wifi support in CLPS, see our Wifi FAQ.
We have published guidelines for printing large-format posters on our shared department poster printer.
Wifi networking is available throughout all of Metcalf Lab, but some devices may not be able to connect to it for specific reasons. For full details, please see our wifi documentation.
If you're inviting a guest speaker to the department for a seminar, colloquium, or other event, please fill out and submit our easy new Guest Speaker form to make sure your event is included in department schedules and your guest gets all the services they need. The form is now available on our Visitor Services page.
We are now maintaining a comprehensive Planning Calendar for all department events. This is provided to make it easier when scheduling visitors and events, to try to minimize conflicting events and overlaps in the department. If you will be scheduling an event or visitor, please make sure to let us know so we can add your events to the calendar. More information is available on the Planning Calendar page.
